****************************************************************** IBM 100/10 ISA Ethernet Adapter Release Notes Version 2.0 Updated January 1997 ****************************************************************** New Features in This Release ============================== Hardware Features ----------------- The new IBM 100/10 ISA hardware: - incorporates a next generation PHY chip, the 83840A, to comply with a revised IEEE standard. - has FCC Class B and CE B EMI ratings with improved PCB layout and magnetics. - has IO address decode increased from 12-bit to 16-bit to allow the board to obtain "Designed for Windows 95" certification. - has added a bus reset (RESET DRV+) filter and voltage supervisor circuit to protect the EEPROM content during power cycles in some poor-performing PC models. - has added adapter logic (AEN decode) for improved slot determination in some EISA PCs. - PnP Device ID (in EEPROM) is revised to reflect a new generation of the adapter. Software Features -------------------- Software Release 2.0 is backward-compatible with the first generation IBM 100/10 ISA Adapter and provides many new features and enhancements as follows: - NetWare 4.11 Server Driver (HSM 3.3 compatible). - Novell's Client 32 Driver (for DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT). - OS/2 ODI Driver added. - Windows NT 4.0 compatible NDIS3 driver. - Improved Windows NT installation with custom .DLL and .HLP files. - Packet Driver added. - SCO Unix Driver (MDI). - OS/2 LAN Server support (includes extended .NIF and .INF for Lan Server 4.0). - Enhanced Windows 95 .INF file to support NDIS3, NDIS2 and ODI driver installation. - Enhanced WFW 3.11 .INF file to support Protected-Mode and/or Real-Mode driver installation. - Readme File Browser to provide assistance in locating proper driver and installation instructions. - Install has been renamed to Config to more accurately describe it's mission. Simplified user interface. - Driver keywords now uniform for all Release 2.0 drivers. - Drivers use 16-bit IO to access adapter FIFO buffers for improved PC motherboard compatibility. - Drivers are backward compatible with the first generation NE10/100 ISA adapter. - Drivers support the new 83840A PHY chip included on the second generation IBM 100/10 ISA adapter. - Drivers include improved physical interface (PHY) management and status determination. - Drivers establish the speed and duplex of the adapter based on keywords (or Auto). - Drivers use the adapter serial number (not IO address) to support multiple instances of the adapter. -Drivers obtain the adapter IO address and IRQ assignmets automatically; Plug and Play friendly - Drivers are NetWare 4.11, Win NT 4.0 and Win 95 certified Errata ------ INSTALL.EXE will run only under DOS and on a 100% DOS partition. Run INSTALL.EXE to start a config or test run. INSTALL.EXE is in the \CONFIG directory. DOS ODI driver does not return an error message on USE32BITIO. Packet driver crashes with KA9Q Radio Packet NOS. IBMFEI.LAN on NW SMP 4.11 accepts illegal SERIAL values without error. May be a problem using IRQ 15 on Gateway 2000 P5-100XL. INSTALL.EXE allows selection of the IRQ, but the system thinks it's in conflict and deactivates the adapter. INSTALL will not run correctly on a HP Pavillion 7170 PC with built-in Cirrus Logic CS4232 Sound Chip driver loaded. Temporary workaround - don't load Cirrus Logic driver CS4232C driver while running INSTALL.
