Utility to determine revision of Intel ICH2 chip README This package will create a DOS bootable diskette which will determine the revision ID of the Intel ICH2 chip used in IBM NetVista(R) 6058-xxx, 6059-xxx, 6568-xxx, 6569-xxx, 6578-xxx, 6579-xxx, 6648-xxx, 6649-xxx, 6830-xxx, 6831-xxx, 6840-xxx, and 6841-xxx systems. Its purpose is to assist customers who might have a problem on the initial boot of their custom preloads due to a change in the revision ID of the Intel ICH2 chip. This change may cause a Plug-and-Play operating system, such as Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me or 2000, to detect hardware. This redetection might include prompting the user for the location of certain device drivers. A blank 1.44MB 3.5-inch diskette will be needed. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Using the utility ----------------- 1. Click Start, highlight Find, then click Files and folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type ich2rev1.exe in the search box, then click Find Now. This will locate the ich2rev1.exe file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the icon for ich2rev1.exe. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. 5. Close all open applications. 6. Leaving the diskette inserted in the diskette drive, Shutdown and restart your computer. You will receive a notification identifying the revision ID of the Intel ICH2 chip in your system. 7. The notification should be interpreted in the following manner: "ICH2 revision level is 01" = B0 Revision "ICH2 revision level is 02" = B1 Revision 8. Remove the diskette from the diskette drive, and restart the computer.
