SoundMAX 1885 WDM audio driver for Microsoft Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 version 5.12.01.3002 README This package installs an update to the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98SE, Me, or 2000 device driver for the onboard ADI SoundMAX audio that comes preinstalled in your IBM(R) computer. This update requires approximately 5MB of space on your hard disk (drive C). This update package is intended for IBM Aptiva 2270-xxx and IBM NetVista 2276-xxx systems that come with onboard ADI SoundMAX 1885 audio. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. 2. Type d64z16us.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the d64z16us.exe file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the icon for d64z16us.exe. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement. 5. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement. 6. Click Next. 7. Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\D64Z16US. 8. Click Next. 9. Follow the onscreen prompts and choose to reboot at the end of installation. Manual installation of driver under Windows Me ---------------------------------------------- 1. Remove any installed audio drivers. 2. Click Start, select Settings, click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Add New Hardware. 4. Click Next. 5. Click Next. 6. Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced). 7. Click Next. 8. Select Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want. 9. Click Next. 10. Select Sound, video and game controllers. 11. Click Next. 12. Click Have Disk... 13. Enter C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\D64Z16US\SE in the "Copy manufacturer's files from" field. 14. Click OK. 15. Select SoundMAX Integrated Difital Audio. 16. Click OK. 17. Click Yes if you see the following message: "The driver that you have chosen was not written specifically for the selected hardware and may not work correctly. Installing this driver is not recommended. Are you sure you want to use this driver?" 18. Click Next. When the driver has been installed you will see "Windows has finished installing the software you selected that your new hardware requires." 19. Click Finish. 20. Click Next. 21. Click Finish. Verifying driver installation ----------------------------- 1. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties. 2. Click Device Manager. 3. Click + next to Sound, video and game controllers. 4. Select SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. 5. Click Properties. 6. Click Driver. 7. Click Driver File Details. The file version should read 5.12.01.3002.
