The Wireless LAN driver enables or updates the Wireless LAN function of the following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters - IBM Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter. NSTALLATION INSTUCTIONS ------------------------- NOTES: Both Wirleess LAN Driver and WPA Support Program must be installed regardless of the usage of WPA featues. IBM Access Connections version 2.7 or later needs to be installed to configure this device. NOTE: *1: To utilize CCX and WPA wireless connections, wireless adapter software for your wireless adapter and Access Connections should be updated as follows. -IBM Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter Software ver 2.4.1.4 or later -IBM Access Connections ver 2.70 or later Please follow the instructions below when you install wireless adapter software and Access Connections. -Before updating the wireless adapter software, please uninstall the IBM Access Connections if already installed: 1. Start Windows XP/2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel 3. Click Add/Remove Programs or Add or Remove Programs 4. Click IBM Access Connections if it is listed under Currently installed programs 5. Click Change/Remove or Remove and follow the instructions on the screen. -If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP Service Pack 1, IBM recommends to uninstall Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP ) if you do not use WPA security feature. To check if the Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it: 1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel 3. Click Add or Remove Programs 4. Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485 if it is listed under Currently installed programs 5. Click Remove and follow the instructions on the screen. -If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless Configuration service if already installed. To check if the service is installed and to stop it: 1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, settings Settings, then click Control Panel 3. Double-click Administrative Tools then Services 4. Double-click Wireless Configuration if it is listed. 5. Change Startup type to Disabled if it is not. 6. Click OK. Device Driver Installation Instructions --------------------------------------- Windows 2000/XP INF Installation 1. Double-click Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter, or PCI Ethernet Controller if this is the first installation to the system, in Device Manager. 2. Click Update Driver in the Driver tab. 3. Click Next twice. 4. Specify the location of the driver. 5. Click Next twice and follow instructions on the screen. 6. Click Finish and Click Yes to restart the system when asked to. WPA Support Program Installation Instructions --------------------------------------------- Windows 2000/XP 1. Run Setup.exe under WPA directory which is located under corresponding operating system's folder and follow the instructions. Open Device Manager 2. Double click Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter to open Adapter Property window. 3. Click Driver tab. How to check WPA Support Program version ---------------------------------------- To check the version of WPA support program that is installed to your system, follow the following instrucitons: Windows XP 1. Open Wireless Network Connection Properties for Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter. 2. Check the WPA Security Protocol(IEEE 802.1x). Windows 2000 1.
