The Wireless LAN driver enables or updates the Wireless LAN function of the following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters - IBM Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad R40 - ThinkPad T40 - ThinkPad T40p(*1) - ThinkPad X31 (Note) *1: Supports Windows 2000/XP. To determine if you should update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Driver itself was not changed from previous version (2.1.10.0/1QWC24WW). If you use Widows 98 SE/2000/XP and Previous version (2.1.10.0/1QWC24WW) is installed, You do not need to update the driver. Version of Configuration Utility (Windows NT 4.0) in this release is ver.2.4. <2.3.0.4/1QWC27WW> - (Fix) Cannot connect to network with some APs when SSID is not broadcasted - (Fix) Takes more than one minute to connect to network when AP is not broadcasting SSID and Windows XP's native configuration utility is used Note: Only drivers for Windows 2000/XP have been update with this packge. You do not need to update the driver, if you use Widows 98 SE/NT 4.0. version of Configuration Utility (Windows 98 SE/NT 4.0) in this release is ver.2.4. INSTALLATION INSTUCTIONS ------------------------- NOTE: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards for the Wireless LAN Driver for the following operating systems: - Microsoft Windows 2000 - Microsoft Windows XP Device Driver Installation Instructions --------------------------------------- Windows 98 SE/2000/XP INF Installation 1. Double-click Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter, or PCI Ethernet Controller if this is the first installation to the system, in Device Manager. 2. Click Update Driver in the Driver tab. 3. Click Next twice. 4. Specify the location of the driver. 5. Click Next twice and follow instructions on the screen. 6. Click Finish and Click Yes to restart the system when asked to. Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click Start, click Settings and click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Network icon. 4. If this is the first time to configure the Network, it will display the Network Configuration dialog box, then proceed to the next step. If not, go to step 14. (First Network Configuration) 5. Click the Yes button. 6. Select Wired to the network. 7. Click the Next button. 8. Click the Select from list... button. 9. Click the Have Disk.. button. 10. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf file in Insert Disk dialog box. 11. Click the OK button. 12. Select Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter. 13. Follow the instructions that follows and reboot the system. (Add Ethernet to Network Configuration) 14. Click the Adapters tab. 15. Click the Add... button. 16. Click the Have Disk... button. 17. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf file in Insert Disk dialog box. 18. Click the OK button. 19. Select Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter. 20. Click the OK button. 21. Click the Close button. 22. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. 23. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Configuration Utility Installation Instructions ----------------------------------------------- Windows 98 SE 1. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is prerequisite. If your computer do not have WMI installed, go to Microsoft's web site and down load the latest WMI and install it first. 2. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions. Windows NT 4.0 1. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions. Windows 2000/XP These operating systems are not supported. Use IBM Access Connections to setup Wireless Networking configurations. Windows NT 4.0 Unattended Installation ------------------------------------- To install the IBM Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter Driver without any interruption, please following these steps. This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows NT 4.0, logon with administrative privileges. 2. Copy the I386 Folder from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM to the hard drive. 3. From Service Pack 6a CD run sp6i386 /X and extract the Service Pack 6a file to hard drive. Specify $OEM$ when prompted for target directory. 4.
