Installation of Windows 98 Operating System . 1. Extract package onto your HDD. Assume extracted Directry is C:\W98SUPP in this guide. 2. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows. 2.1. Make a temporary directory ( for instance, C:\WIN98) and make sure enough harddisk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free spacve vary depending on the language of Windows 98) 2.2.Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from \WIN98 directory of Windows 98 CD. Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN98\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir" and press Enter where src_cd: Drive Letter of CD-ROM drive ( e.g. D:, E: ...) tgt_dir: Drive Letter and Temporary directory 3. Copy updated INF files from W98SUPP directory to the temporary directory 3.1. Type "COPY C:\W98SUPP\W98GOLD\*.* tgt_drv:\tgt_dir" and press Enter. tgt_drv:\tgt_dir: Drive Letter and temporary directory made in 2.1. (e.g. C:\WIN98) 4. Start Installation from the temporary directory 4.1. Run "Setup.exe" in the temporary directory 4.2. Refer to the Windows 98 dcumentatoin and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. For ThinkPad 770E/ED/X/Z and ThinkPad 600E Users only ===================================================== To install fix modules of modem drivers in Windows 98 (4.10.1998) 1. From the command prompt, go to C:\Windows\system 2. Rename a coupe of files as folows. Type REN UNIMODEM.VXD UNIMODEM.BAK and press ENTER Type REN UNIMDM.TSP UNIMDM.BAK and press ENTER 3. Copy UNIMODEM.VXD Type COPY E:W98GQFE\UNIMODEM.vxd c:\windows\system 4. Copy UNIMDM.TSP Type COPY E:W98GQFE\UNIMDM.TSP c:\windows\system 5. Copy VCOMM.vxd Type COPY E:\W98GQFE\VCOMM.VXD c:\windows\system\vmm32 6. Reboot the system Windows 98 Second Edition (4.10.2222A) ====================================== 1. Extract package onto your HDD. Assume extracted Directry is C:\W98SUPP in this guide. 2. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs in Windows 98 Second Edition retail CD-ROM to your HDD as follows. 2.1. Start Installation from the temporary directory 4.1. To installl in APM, Run "Setup.exe C:\Win98\APMINST.INF" in the temporary directory If APMINST.INF exists in another directory, specifiy the absolute path of APMINST.INF after "Setup.exe". 4.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Both Windows 98 Gold and Windows 98 Second Edition ================================================== II. Apply APM2APM.reg information onto Windows 98/98SE. 1. Boot the system 2. Open start menu and select "Run ..." 3. Click Run. "Run" windows is open. 4. Type C:\W98SUPP\APM2APM\APM2APM.reg and click [OK]. Following Registry Editor's windows appears. "Are you sure you want to add the information C:\W98SUPP\apm2apm\apm2apm.reg to the registory?" 5. Select [Yes]. Successfull windows message is displayed. 6. Select [OK] to exit the registory editor screen. For Windows 98 Second Edition ============================= III. Apply IBM LCD Color Profile 1. Click right button on desktop to open Display Properties tab. 2. Select Settings tab. 3. Click Advanced. 4. Select Monitor tab and Change. 5. Click Have Disk. 6. Specify the directory where ibm_tp.inf and ibm_tp.icm files exist and then OK. 7. Select ibm_tp.inf and then OK. 8. Select one panel in the list you are using now. 9. Click Apply. 10.Select Color Management tab to make sure ibm_tp.icm file is loaded. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- This Package has following files.
