IBM ThinkPad 390E, 390X March 31, 2000 Configuration Utility for Windows NT 4.0 Version 1.02 ======================================================================== What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the following utility programs for Windows NT 4.0 users: - ThinkPad Configuration program - Fuel-Gauge program Notice for ThinkPad 390E users: Previously, the Fuel Gauge program was provided as a separate package. Now, it is included with this Configuration Utility. Do not try to install any previous versions of the fuel gauge program after updating to this Configuration Utility. This release supports the following ThinkPad systems: - ThinkPad 390E, 390X To determine if you have to update the utility programs or not, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the utility programs, refer to the "Installation Guide" section. Do not install any previous versions of the ThinkPad 390E Fuel Gauge program.) - (New) The Fuel Gauge program has been improved to: - show a more detail level of charge information, and to - show charge/discharge icons in the system tray. - (Fix) When logged on as a User, not as an Administrator, the Fuel Gauge program would not start. - (Fix) ThinkPad 390E only - When logged on as a User, not as an Administrator, clicking on the System Information button in the ThinkPad Configuration program, would give a "DMI Table not found" error message instead of showing the BIOS information. Installation Guide ------------------ Notes: - To determine if you have to update the Utility program or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. For ThinkPad 390E users: - Before installing this package, you must uninstall the Configuration Utility program and if installed, the original, older Fuel Gauge program For ThinkPad 390X users: - Before installing this package, you must uninstall the old Configuration Utility program. HOW TO UNINSTALL THE PROGRAMS: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privilege. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' ->' Control Panel' 3. Double click on the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon. 4. Click on the "Configuration Utility" so that it is highlighted. 5. Click on the 'Add/Remove' button add follow the prompts on the screen. 6. For ThinkPad 390E users, if you find "Fuel Gauge" listed, select it so that it becomes highlighted, click on the 'Add/Remove' button and follow the prompts on the screen. 7. Close all windows, then shut down and restart the computer. HOW TO INSTALL THE DRIVER: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privilege. 2. Extract this package to the hard disk. 3. Click on 'Start' then click on 'Run...' 4. In the Run dialog window, type "C:\DRIVERS\WNT\UTILITY\SETUP" to install the Configuration Utility. Click OK to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. When the installation is completed, shutdown and restart the computer. HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type in "thinkpad.exe". 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click on the 'Find Now' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for thinkpad.exe. If the file is not found, then the Configuration Utility is not installed on your system. 7. In the 'Found' part of the window, right click on "thinkpad.exe" located in "C:\Program Files\Configuration Utility" and select "Properties". 8. Click on the "Version" tab.
