Operating environment The product can be used under the following operating conditions: Software: Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000 Hardware: A PC that uses the USB Universal Host Controller (UHCI) The USB Open Host Controller (OHCI) is not supported. * Checking the USB Host Controller Double-click "System" in "Control Panel" and open the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" category on "Device Manager" to determine if your PC uses the USB Universal Host Controller (UHCI) or the USB Open Host Controller (OHCI). 2. Precautions in using the USB CD-ROM drive (1) The driver for Windows 98 supports only one unit of the USB CD-ROM drive. (2) Although the USB CD-ROM drive conforms to hot plug, avoid removing while operating it. (3) Avoid removing and reconnecting the USB CD-ROM drive in rapid succession. (4) Use the Hot Plug Icon on the Status Bar before removing the USB CD-ROM drive in Windows 2000. (5) Avoid removing the USB CD-ROM drive while setting up Windows 98/2000. (6) When a CD-ROM drive other than the USB-CD-ROM drive is connected, be sure to eject the media from it during the USB CD-ROM is used for windows 2000 setup. (We recommend that using a ATAPI CD-ROM to setup Windows 2000 if a ATAPI CD-ROM is connected on your system.) * When using the driver for Windows 98 Setup(USB_CD.SYS) (1) Connection of the USB CD-ROM drive via a hub is not supported. Be sure to connect the drive to the USB connector of the system. (2) When using the driver for Windows 98 setup(USB_CD.SYS), other USB devices(mouse, keyboard, etc.) cannot be used. (3) Be sure to start the system after connecting USB CD-ROM drive. 3. Structure of this driver disk \Ptblkusb.sys : Driver for Windows 98 \Ptblkcdr.mpd : Driver for Windows 98 \IbmUsbP.inf : Information file for Windows 98 \UnUsbdrv.exe : Driver uninstaller \Readme.txt : This instruction manual \Dos\USB_CD.SYS : Driver for Windows 98 Setup Use the driver included in the system when using Windows 2000. 4. Installation procedure for the Windows 98 driver When the USB CD-ROM drive is connected to the USB connector, New Hardware Wizard is displayed. Check "Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now (Recommended)" and click [Next]. Insert the driver disk, then check "Floppy Disk Drive" and click [Next]. When the drive location is found, click [Next]. The driver will be copied to complete the installation, enabling the use of USB CD-ROM drive. (Don't eject driver disk before copying driver files has been finished.) 5. Connecting procedure in Windows 2000 Connecting the USB CD-ROM drive to the USB connector of the system automatically installs the driver in the system, enabling the use of USB CD-ROM drive.
