PRO/100 LAN Adapter Software, 1GRA30WW, Build 41222.

Users who use the  Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter, use the previous
version of Intel(R) PRO/100 LAN Adapter Software, 1GRA30WW, Build 41222.

What This Package Does
----------------------
This package provides the Ethernet driver for DOS(*1),
Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP and OS/2.
The Ethernet driver enables or updates the Ethernet function of the
following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters

- Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

This release supports the following systems:

  - ThinkPad A30, A30p(*4)
  - ThinkPad A31, A31p(*2)(*4)
  - ThinkPad T23
  - ThinkPad T30(*2)(*3)(*5)
  - ThinkPad X22, X23, X24(*4)
  - ThinkPad X30(*2)(*3)(*4)(*5)
  (Note)
   *1: The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation
       purpose.
   *2: Windows 95 is not supported.
   *3: Windows Me is not supported.
       For ThinkPad T30, only the following models support Windows Me,
       other ThinkPad T30 models do not support Windows Me.
        2366/2367-x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for
        M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x.
   *4: OS/2 is not supported.
   *5: Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (MiniPCI Combo Card)
       is not supported.

The Modem drivers for the Mini PCI Combo Card are available in a
separate package.

To determine if you should update the Ethernet driver, refer to the
"Summary of Changes" section.

To update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Installation 
Instructions" section.

Installation Instructions
-------------------------

NOTE: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard
for this package for the following operating systems:
- Windows 98
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP

Note: Before upgrading Intel(R) PROSet, you have to uninstall the current
PROSet that is installed on your ThinkPad.

(Ethernet Daughter Card)
The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network
Connection in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

Windows 98

UPDATE INSTALL:
To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows 98.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the System icon.
 5. Click Device Manager tab.
 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
 7. Right-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
 8. Click the Driver tab.
 9. Click the Update Driver button.
10. Click the Next button in Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
11. Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is
    using now.(Recommended).
12. Click the Next button.
13. Select Specify a location: only.
14. Specify the path C:\Drivers\WIN\Ethernet\PRO100\WIN98-ME
15. Click the Next button.
16. Click the Next button.
17. Click the Next button.
    The driver installation starts.
18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.


CLEAN INSTALL: (Add New Hardware Wizard)
If this is the first time to boot Windows 98, the OS detects the Ethernet
Controller automatically.  To install the device driver, follow the instructions
below.

 1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 2. Start Windows 98.
 3. It displays Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box.
 4. Click the Next button.
 5. Select Search for the best driver for your device. (recommended).
 6. Click the Next button.
 7. Select Specify a location: only.
 8. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WIN98-ME with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in Specify a 
    location:.
 9. Click the Next button.
10. Click the Next button.
11. Click the Next button.
    The driver installation starts.
12. Click Finish button when the installation completes.
13. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL: (PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices)
Windows 98 detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to
find the correct device driver.  In this case, you will see Ethernet
Controller in Other devices in Device Manager.  To install the
driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Start Windows 98.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the System icon.
 5. Click the Device Manager tab.
 6. Right-click PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click
    Properties.
 7. Click the Driver tab.
 8. Click the Update Driver button.
 9. Click the Next button in Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
10. Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is
    using now.(recommended).
11. Click the Next button.
12. Select Specify a location: only.
13. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WIN98-ME with the full path name

Windows Me detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to
find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see
PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager.
To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

 2. If not yet, extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Ethernet Device Driver
 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the Network icon.
 5. Click the Adapters tab.
 6. Select Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection.
 7. Click the Update button.
 8. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINNT4 with the full path name where
    you extracted the package in the step 2
 9. Click the Continue button.
10. Click the Close button.
11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 b. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 c. Double-click the Network icon.
 d. Click the Services tab.
 e. Select NDIS PM Interface.
 f. Click the Update button.
 g. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that
    contains the driver in the step 2 in Windows NT Setup dialog box.
 h. Click the Continue button.
 i. Click the Close button.
 j. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL:

Ethernet Device Driver
 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the Network icon. It displays Network Configuration 
    dialog box if this is the first time to configure the Network. If 
    not, go to step 20.

First Network Configuration
 5. Click the Yes button.
 6. Select Wired to the network.
 7. Click the Next button.
 8. Click the Select from list button.
 9. Click the Have Disk button.
10. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINNT4 with the full path name where
    you extracted the package in the step 2
11. Click the OK button.
12. Select Intel(R) PRO/100 Family Adapter.
13. Click the OK button.
14. Click the Next button.
15. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
16. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by
    typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files.
    (It is usually c:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's x:\i386
    directory.)
17. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Add  Ethernet to Network Configuration
20. Click the Adapters tab.
21. Click the Add button.
22. Click the Have Disk button.
23. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINNT4 with the full path name where
    you extracted the package in the step 2
24. Click the OK button.
25. Select Intel(R) PRO/100 Family Adapter.
26. Click the OK button.
27. Click the Close button.
28. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
29. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.

11. Click the Next button in Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
13. Click the Next button.
14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
15. Click the Next button.
16. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WIN2K with the full path name where
    you extracted the package in the step 2.
17. Click the OK button.
18. Click the Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a
    Digital Signature not found message. Simply answer Yes if this
    message appears).
    The driver installation starts.
19. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
20. Restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL: (Found New Hardware Wizard)
If this is the first time to boot Windows 2000, the OS detects the Ethernet
Controller automatically.  To install the device driver, follow the instructions

 1. Extract this package onto the hard drive.

 4. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
 5. Click the Next button.
 6. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
 7. Click the Next button.
 8. Specify the directory name PRO100\WIN2K, with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 1.
 9. Click the OK button.
10. Click the Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a
    Digital Signature not found message. Simply answer Yes if this
    message appears).
    The driver installation starts.
11. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
12. Restart the computer.

 2. Start Windows XP.
 3. After the Found New Hardware Wizard begins select Install from a list 
    or specific location (Advanced)
 5. Click Next.
 6. Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and
    Include this location in the search: only.
 7. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINXP32 with the full path name 
    where you extracted the package in the step 1.
 8. Click Next.
    The driver installation starts.
 9. Click Finish when the installation completes.

CLEAN INSTALL: (Ethernet Controller in Other devices)
Windows XP detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct
device driver.  In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller in Other devices
in Device Manager.  To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
 2. Start Windows XP.
 3. Click Start and Control Panel.
 4. Click Performance and Maintenance and System.
 5. Click the Hardware tab.
 6. Click Device Manager.
 7. Right-click Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
 8. Click the Driver tab.
 9. Click Update Driver...
10. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
11. Click Next.
12. Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and
    Include this location in the search: only.
13. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINXP32 with the full path name 
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in "Include this location 
    in the search:".
14. Click Next.
    The driver installation starts.
15. Click Finish when the installation completes.
16. Click Close.

To update the driver,

1. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
 2. Start Windows XP.
 3. Click Start and click Control Panel.
 4. Click Performance and Maintenance and click the System icon.
 5. Click the Hardware tab.

    The driver installation starts.
16. Click Finish when the installation completes.
17. Click Close.


Unattended Installation
-----------------------

DOS driver for unattended installation:
For customers who need unattended installation, the DOS driver
(E100B.DOS) is included in DOS sub-directory in this package.
Unattended installation instructions are also included in PUSH
sub-directory.  The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose.


OS/2
----

OS/2 driver is included in OS2 sub-directory in this package.

To install or update the device driver, use the standard tools 
provided by the operating system and point to the media or directory 
containing the drivers, such as follows:

1. Double-click OS/2 System.
2. Double-click System Setup .
3. Double-click MPTS Network Adapters and Protocol Services.
4. Click Configure on Multi-Protocol Transport Services
 5. Confirm LAN adapters and protocols is selected and click the Configure button
 6. Click Other adapters...
 7. Type the full path to the OS/2 Ethernet driver and click OK
     The OS/2 driver is located in the PRO100\OS2 folder.
 8. Select Intel(R) PRO PCI Adapter in Network Adapters and click Add
 9. Add Protocols as required for your network
10. Click OK to close Adapters and Protocol Configuration
11. Click Close to exit Configure
12. Click Exit to close Multi-Protocol Transport Services.
13. Confirm Update CONFIG.SYS is selected and click Exit.
14. A CONFIG.SYS Updated message will be displayed and then click OK.
15. Click OK to exit MPTS
16. Reboot the system

The following operating systems use one of the listed NDIS device
drivers.

Windows 98:     E100bnt5.sys
Windows Me:     E100bnt5.sys
Windows NT 4.0: E100bnt.sys
Windows 2000:   E100bnt5.sys
Windows XP:     E100b325.sys

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your
system, follow the following instructions:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
2. Click Find.
3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example,
   if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
4. Click on the Find Now button.
5. It lists the NDIS driver(s).
   If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is
   not installed in your system.
6. Right-click on the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
7. Click on the Properties.
8. Click on the Version tab.
9. Click on the Product Version in the Items name: field.

DOS NDIS2:
1. Find the file E100b.dos.
2. To determine if a driver update is needed, check the date of the
   driver file. If the date is older then 04/29/2002, then you need to
   update your driver.

DOS ODI:
1. Find the file E100BODI.COM.
2. Execute it in DOS environment, it shows the following version 
   information.
   "Intel(R) PRO PCI Adapter v4.01 (011130)"


Unattended installation
-----------------------
This is for system administrators' use only.

The instructions are included in "APPS\SETUP\PUSH" folder of this software 
package.
