What This Package Does
----------------------
This package provides the Ethernet driver for DOS(*1),
Windows 95/98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP and OS/2.
The Ethernet driver enables or updates the Ethernet function of the
following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters

- Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection (Ethernet Daughter Card)
- Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (Mini PCI Combo Card)

This release supports the following systems:

  - ThinkPad A30, A30p(*4)
  - ThinkPad A31, A31p(*2)(*4)
  - ThinkPad T23
  - ThinkPad T30(*2)(*3)(*5)
  - ThinkPad X22, X23, X24(*4)
  - ThinkPad X30(*2)(*3)(*4)(*5)
  (Note)
   *1: The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation
       purpose.
   *2: Windows 95 is not supported.
   *3: Windows Me is not supported.
       For ThinkPad T30, only the following models support Windows Me,
       other ThinkPad T30 models do not support Windows Me.
        2366/2367-x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for
        M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x.
   *4: OS/2 is not supported.
   *5: Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (MiniPCI Combo Card)
       is not supported.

The Modem drivers for the Mini PCI Combo Card are available in a
separate package.

To determine if you should update the Ethernet driver, refer to the
"Summary of Changes" section.

To update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Installation 
Instructions" section.

Installation Instructions

NOTE: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard
for this package for the following operating systems:
- Windows 98
- Windows Me
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP

(Ethernet Daughter Card)
The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network
Connection in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

(Intel Mini PCI Card)
The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile
Combo Adapter in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

Windows 95

NOTICE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows
        95, 98, and Me.

UPDATE INSTALL:
To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows 95.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click System icon.
 5. Click Device Manager tab.
 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
 7. Click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection or Intel PRO/100 SP 
    Mobile Combo Adapter.
 8. Click the Properties button.
 9. Click the Driver tab.
10. Click Update Driver button.
11. Select Yes (Recommended) to Do you want Windows to search for
    the driver?.
12. Click the Next button.
13. Click Other Locations button.
14. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Location.
15. Click the OK button.
16. Click the Finish button.

CLEAN INSTALL: (Update Device Driver Wizard)
If this is the first boot of Windows 95 after installing the
Ethernet Daughter Card or the Intel MiniPCI Card in the computer,
Windows 95 detects the card automatically.  To install the device
driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 2. Start Windows 95.
 3. It displays Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
 4. Click the Next button.
 5. Click Other Locations button.
 6. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in Location, and
    click OK.
 7. Click the Finish button.
 8. It displays Insert Disk dialog box. Click the OK button.
 9. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in Copy files from:,
    and click the OK button.
10. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to configure 
    network settings.
11. Follow the prompts for any Windows 95 installation disks by typing
    the path to the directory that contains Windows 95 files.
12. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.


CLEAN INSTALL: (PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices)
Windows 95 detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to
find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see
PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager.
To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Start Windows 95.
 2. If not yet, extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click System icon.
 5. Click Device Manager tab.
 6. Click the + mark to expand Other devices.
 7. Click PCI Ethernet Controller.
 8. Click the Properties button.
 9. Click the Driver tab.
10. Click the Update Driver button.
11. Select Yes (Recommended) to Do you want Windows to search for
    the driver?.
12. Click the Next button.
13. Click the Other Locations button.
14. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Location, and
    click OK.
15. Click the Finish button.
16. It displays Insert Disk dialog box.  Click the OK button.
17. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Copy files from:.
18. Click the OK button.
19. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
20. Restart the computer.



Windows 98

NOTICE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows
        95, 98, and Me.

 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the Network icon.
 5. Click the Adapters tab.
 6. Select Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection or Intel PRO/100 SP 
    Mobile Combo Adapter.
 7. Click the Update button.
 8. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
 9. Click the Continue button.
10. Click the Close button.
11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 b. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 c. Double-click the Network icon.
 d. Click the Services tab.
 e. Select NDIS PM Interface.
 f. Click the Update button.
 g. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that
    contains the driver in the step 2 in Windows NT Setup dialog box.
 h. Click the Continue button.
 i. Click the Close button.
 j. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL:

Ethernet Device Driver
 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the Network icon. It displays Network Configuration 
    dialog box if this is the first time to configure the Network. If 
    not, go to step 20.

First Network Configuration
 5. Click the Yes button.
 6. Select Wired to the network.
 7. Click the Next button.
 8. Click the Select from list button.
 9. Click the Have Disk button.
10. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
11. Click the OK button.
12. Select Intel PRO Adapter.
13. Click the OK button.
14. Click the Next button.
15. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
16. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by
    typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files.
    (It is usually c:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's x:\i386
    directory.)
17. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
19. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Add  Ethernet to Network Configuration
20. Click the Adapters tab.
21. Click the Add button.
22. Click the Have Disk button.
23. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
24. Click the OK button.
25. Select Intel PRO Adapter.
26. Click the OK button.
27. Click the Close button.
28. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
29. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 b. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 c. Double-click the Network icon.
 d. Click the Protocols tab.
 e. Click the Add button.
 f. Click the Have Disk button.
 g. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that
    contains the driver in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
 h. Click the OK button.
 i. Select NDIS PM Interface.
 j. Click the OK button.
 k. Click the Close button.
 l. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.


Windows 2000

To customers who use Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (Mini PCI
combo card) on ThinkPad X23, X24 system's Bluetooth model under 
Windows 2000, disable Smart Power Down feature for Ethernet in the 
Device Manager with the instructions below:

1. Click Start, click Settings, and then select Control Panel
2. Double-click System, click the Hardware tab, click Device 
   Manager...
3. Double-click Network adapters, then double-click Intel PRO/100 SP
   Mobile Combo Adapter
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. Select Smart Power Down in the property window and change the value
   to Disabled.
6. Click OK.

UPDATE INSTALL:
To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows 2000.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click the System icon.
 5. Click the Hardware tab.
 6. Click the Device Manager button.
 7. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
 8. Right-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection or Intel PRO/100 
    SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters and click Properties.
 9. Click the Driver tab.
10. Click the Update Driver button.
11. Click the Next button in Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
13. Click the Next button.
14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
15. Click the Next button.
16. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Copy manufacturer's files
    from:.
17. Click the OK button.
18. Click the Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a
    Digital Signature not found message. Simply answer Yes if this
    message appears).
    The driver installation starts.
19. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
20. Restart the computer.

10. Click the Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a

Windows XP

UPDATE INSTALL:

To customers who use Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter
(Mini PCI combo card) on ThinkPad X23 or X24 system's Bluetooth model 
under Windows XP, disable Smart Power Down feature for Ethernet in the
Device Manager with the instructions below:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel select the Switch to Classic View 
   option.
2. Double-click System then click the Hardware tab and select Device 
   Manager...
3. Double-click Network adapters, double-click Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile
    Combo Adapter
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Select Smart Power Down in the property window and change the value 
   to Disabled
6. Click OK

Note: Windows XP contains a native driver for Ethernet and it is
      loaded automatically.  If you need to update the driver,
      follow the instructions below:

To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows XP.
 2. Click Start, then click Control Panel choose the option to Switch 
    to Classic View.
 3. Double-click System, select the Hardware tab, and then click 
    Device Manager.
 4. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
 5. Right-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection or Intel PRO/100
    SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters and select Properties.
 6. Click the Driver tab.
 7. Click Update Driver...
 8. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and 
    click Next.
 9. Select Search for the best driver in these locations.
10. Select Include this location in the search.  Click Browse and 
    click the + mark to specify the Ethernet driver location, and 
    click OK.
11. Click Next, the driver installation starts.
12. Click Finish.


Unattended Installation
-----------------------

DOS driver for unattended installation:
For customers who need unattended installation, the DOS driver
(E100B.DOS) is included in DOS sub-directory in this package.
Unattended installation instructions are also included in PUSH
sub-directory.  The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose.


OS/2
----

OS/2 driver is included in OS2 sub-directory in this package.

To install or update the device driver, use the standard tools 
provided by the operating system and point to the media or directory 
containing the drivers, such as follows:

1. Double-click the OS/2 System.
2. Double-click the System Setup .
3. Double-click the MPTS Network Adapters and Protocol Services.
4. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

The following operating systems use one of the listed NDIS device
drivers.

Windows 95:     E100bnt.sys or E100b.sys

Windows 2000:   E100bnt5.sys
Windows XP:     E100b325.sys

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your
system, follow the following instructions:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
2. Click Find.
3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example,
   if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
4. Click on the Find Now button.
5. It lists the NDIS driver(s).
   If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is
   not installed in your system.
6. Right-click on the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
7. Click on the Properties.
8. Click on the Version tab.
9. Click on the Product Version in the Items name: field.

DOS NDIS2:
1. Find the file E100b.dos.
2. To determine if a driver update is needed, check the date of the
   driver file. If the date is older then 04/17/2001, then you need to
   update your driver.

DOS ODI:
1. Find the file E100BODI.COM.
2. Execute it in DOS environment, it shows the following version 
   information.
   "Intel(R) PRO PCI Adapter  v3.59 (010713)"
