What This Package Does
----------------------
This package provides the Ethernet driver for DOS, Windows 95/98/Me,
Windows NT 4.0/2000, OS/2.
The Ethernet driver enables or updates the Ethernet function of the
following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters

- Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection (Ethernet Daughter Card)
- Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (Mini PCI Combo Card)

This release supports the following systems:

  - ThinkPad T23
  - ThinkPad A30, A30p
  - ThinkPad X22

 Note  *1: The OS/2 driver is included only for ThinkPad T Series
       *2: The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation
           purpose.
      
The Modem drivers for the Mini PCI Combo Card are available in a
separate package.

To determine if you should update the Ethernet driver, refer to the
"Summary of Changes" section.

To update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions"
section.

Installation Instructions
-------------------------

Note: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard
for this package for the following operating systems:
- Windows 98
- Windows Me
- Windows 2000

(Ethernet Daughter Card)
The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network
Connection in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

(Intel Mini PCI Card)
The name of the Ethernet device driver is Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile
Combo Adapter in the Device Manager and in the Network Control Panel.

Windows 95

NOTICE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows 95, 98, and Me.

UPDATE INSTALL: 
To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows 95.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click System icon.
 5. Click Device Manager tab.
 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
 7. Click Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection or 
    Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter.
 8. Click Properties button.
 9. Click Driver tab.
10. Click Update Driver button.
11. Select Yes (Recommended) to Do you want Windows to search for
    the driver?.
12. Click Next button.
13. Click Other Locations button.
14. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Location.
15. Click OK button.
16. Click Finish button.

CLEAN INSTALL: (Update Device Driver Wizard)
If this is the first boot of Windows 95 after installing the
Ethernet Daughter Card or the Intel MiniPCI Card in the computer,
Windows 95 detects the card automatically.  To install the device
driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 2. Start Windows 95.
 3. It displays Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
 4. Click Next button.
 5. Click Other Locations button.
 6. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in Location, and 
    click OK.
 7. Click Finish button.
 8. It displays Insert Disk dialog box. Click the OK button.
 9. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 1 in Copy files from:,
    and click OK button.
10. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen to configure network
    settings.
11. Follow the prompts for any Windows 95 installation disks by typing
    the path to the directory that contains Windows 95 files.
12. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL: (PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices)
Windows 95 detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to
find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see
PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager.
To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Start Windows 95.
 2. If not yet, extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click System icon.
 5. Click Device Manager tab.
 6. Click the + mark to expand Other devices.
 7. Click PCI Ethernet Controller.
 8. Click Properties button.
 9. Click Driver tab.
10. Click Update Driver button.
11. Select Yes (Recommended) to Do you want Windows to search for
    the driver?.
12. Click Next button.
13. Click Other Locations button.
14. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Location, and 
    click OK.
15. Click Finish button.
16. It displays Insert Disk dialog box.  Click OK button.
17. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Copy files from:.
18. Click OK button.
19. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
20. Restart the computer.


Windows 98

NOTICE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows 95, 98, and Me.

CLEAN INSTALL: (PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices)
Windows Me detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to
find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see
PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager.
To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

 1. Start Windows Me.
 2. If not yet, extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Click view all Control Panel options link.
 5. Double-click System icon.
 6. Click Device Manager tab.
 7. Right-click PCI Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click
    Properties.
 8. Click Driver tab.
 9. Click Update Driver button.
10. Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).

12. Specify the path to sub-directory Win9x with the full path name
    where you extracted the package in the step 2 in Specify a location:.
13. Click Next button.

Windows NT 4.0

UPDATE INSTALL:
To update the device driver and power management driver,

Ethernet Device Driver
 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click Network icon.
 5. Click Adapters tab.
 6. Select Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection or 
    Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter.
 7. Click Update button.
 8. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
 9. Click Continue button.
10. Click Close button.
11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 b. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 c. Double-click Network icon.
 d. Click Services tab.
 e. Select NDIS PM Interface.
 f. Click Update button.
 g. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that
    contains the driver in the step 2 in Windows NT Setup dialog box.
 h. Click Continue button.
 i. Click Close button.
 j. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

CLEAN INSTALL:

Ethernet Device Driver
 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click Network icon.
 5. It displays Network Configuration dialog box if this is the
    first time to configure the Network. If not, go to step 21.

First Network Configuration
 6. Click Yes button.
 7. Select Wired to the network.
 8. Click Next button.
 9. Click Select from list button.
10. Click Have Disk button.
11. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
12. Click OK button.
13. Select Intel(R) PRO Adapter.
14. Click OK button.
15. Click Next button.
16. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
17. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by
    typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files.
    (It is usually c:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's x:\i386
    directory.)
18. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
19. Click Finish button when the installation completes.
20. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Add  Ethernet to Network Configuration
21. Click Adapters tab.
22. Click Add button.
23. Click Have Disk button.
24. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
25. Click OK button.
26. Select Intel(R) PRO Adapter.
27. Click OK button.
28. Click Close button.
29. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
30. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Ethernet Power Management Driver (NDIS PM Interface)
 a. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 b. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 c. Double-click Network icon.
 d. Click Protocols tab.
 e. Click Add button.
 f. Click Have Disk button.
 g. Specify the path to sub-directory NPMINT40 of the directory that
    contains the driver in the step 2 in Insert Disk dialog box.
 h. Click OK button.
 i. Select NDIS PM Interface.
 j. Click OK button.
 k. Click Close button.
 l. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.


Windows 2000

UPDATE INSTALL: 
To update the driver,

 1. Start Windows 2000.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
 4. Double-click System icon.
 5. Click Hardware tab.
 6. Click Device Manager button.

 8. Right-click Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection or 
    Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter in Network adapters
    and click Properties.
 9. Click Driver tab.

11. Click Next button in Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
13. Click Next button.
14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
15. Click Next button.
16. Specify the directory name with the full path name where you
    extracted the package in the step 2 in Copy manufacturer's files
    from:.
17. Click OK button.
18. Click Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a
    Digital Signature not found message. Simply answer Yes if this
    message appears).
    The driver installation starts.
19. Click Finish button when the installation completes.
20. Restart the computer.

11. Click Next button. (After this step, the installer may say a
    Digital Signature not found message. Simply answer Yes if this
    message appears).
    The driver installation starts.
12. Click Finish button when the installation completes.
13. Restart the computer.

Unattended Installation
-----------------------

DOS driver for unattended installation:
For customers who need unattended installation, the DOS driver
(E100B.DOS) is included in DOS sub-directory in this package.
Unattended installation instructions are also included in PUSH
sub-directory.  The DOS driver can be used only for this purpose.


OS/2
----

OS/2 driver is included in OS2 sub-directory in this package.

To install or update the device driver, use the standard tools provided by
the operating system and point to the media or directory containing the
drivers, such as follows:

1. Double-click on the OS/2 System.
2. Double-click on the System Setup .
3. Double-click on the MPTS Network Adapters and Protocol Services.
4. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.


Determining which version is installed

The following operating systems use one of the listed NDIS device
drivers.

Windows 95:     E100bnt.sys or E100b.sys
Windows 98:     E100bnt5.sys
Windows Me:     E100bnt5.sys
Windows NT 4.0: E100bnt.sys
Windows 2000:   E100bnt5.sys

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your
system, follow the following instructions:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
2. Click Find.
3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example,
   if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
4. Click on the Find Now button.
5. It lists the NDIS driver(s).
   If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is
   not installed in your system.
6. Right-click on the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
7. Click on the Properties.
8. Click on the Version tab.
9. Click on the Product Version in the Items name: field.

DOS NDIS2:
1. Find the file E100b.dos.
2. To determine if a driver update is needed, check the date of the
   driver file. If the date is older then 04/17/2001, then you need to
   update your driver.
DOS ODI:
1. Find the file E100BODI.COM.
2. Execute it in DOS environment, it shows the following version information.
   "Intel(R) PRO PCI Adapter  v3.59 (010713)"
