Installation instructions ------------------------- - Note 1: To determine if you should update the Modem drive, refer to the Summary of Changes section. - Note 2: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard for this package. MANUAL INSTALL: 1. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SWMDMLUC\SETUP.EXE and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions. If the message window that says Digital Signature Not Found, click the Yes button. UNATTENDED INSTALLATION This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start, then click Run. 5. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SWMDMLUC\SETUP.EXE -S, and click OK. MANUAL UNINSTALL: 1. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click on Start, then click Control Panel. 3. If Windows 2000: Click on Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel. If Windows XP: Click on Start, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click(Windows2000) or Single-click(WindowsXP) Add/Remove Programs icon. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem. 5. Click Change/Remove. 6. Click Yes in the confirmation window. 7. When asked to restart the system, click Yes. *** If you do not remove the modem H/W, Windows will detect the modem again on the next boot. HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED: ------------------------------------------- If there is an alphabet letters in the version number, check the date stamp of each file which version is installed. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, point to Find, then click For Files or Folders. 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type the file name listed above in the table. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. For Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click 'Start', then click 'Seach'. 3. Click 'All files and folders'. 4. In the 'All or part of the file name:' field, type each file name. 5. In the 'Look in:' field, select C: drive. 6. Click 'More Advanced Options', then check 'Search subfolders'. 7. Click 'Search' button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. To check the driver version. For Windows 2000 1. Start Windows 2000 2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click Phone and Modem Options. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem then click Properties. 6. Select the Diagnostics tab and click Query Modem. 7. Check Command | Response window to verify the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed. For Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start, then click Control Panel. 3. Click Printers and Other Hardware, then click Phone and Modem Options. Or double-click Phone and Modem Options. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR then click Properties. 6. Select the Diagnostics tab and click Query Modem. 7. Check Command | Response window to check the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed.
