What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the modem driver for Windows 98. This package enables or updates the modem function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad R30 ( except Ethernet Wireless integrated model *1 ) *1 If your ThinkPad R30 is the Ethernet Wireless integrated model, Use "ThinkPad R30 Modem driver IV for Windows 98" instead of this package. Version 3.1.97b A problem fix(Note) Note : If you install the new audio driver (version 5.12.01.5261), you need to install this modem driver. As the driver has no change, if you do not have the COM port problem and have already installed previous version[<3.1.96>(8/21/2001)], you do not need to install this version[<3.1.96>(7/8/2002)]. <3.1.97>(5/21/2003) - (Fix) Enumerate ID change. NOTE : If you install the new audio driver (version 5.12.01.5260), you need to install this modem driver. If you are using the system without any problem and have not installed the audio driver (version 5.12.01.5260),then you do not need to install this modem driver. <3.1.97b> - (Fix) Modem may not work with a certain audio driver. NOTE: If you install the new audio driver (version 5.12.01.5261), you need to install this modem driver. If you are using the system without any problem and have not installed the audio driver (version 5.12.01.5261), you do not need to install this modem driver (version 3.1.97b). Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTE: If the audio driver has not been installed on the system, install the audio driver prior to the modem driver. 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\W98\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. If New Hardware Found windows appears and it asks for the installation disk, then type C:\DRIVERS\W98\MODEM in Copy files from box. Then click OK. 7. Restart the system for the driver to take effect. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- [Distinguish <3.1.96>(8/21/2001) and <3.1.96>(7/8/2002)] 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click System 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Expand the Modem section. 6. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR and click Properties. 7. Click the Driver tab. 8. The driver date appears at "Date:" Then you can know the version in the table shown below. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR and click Properties. 7. Click the Driver tab. 8. Click Driver File Details. 9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\LTSM.VXD.
