From this package, it supports both "ThinkPad AMR Modem II (CDC)" which is the modem only card, and "ThinkPad AMR Modem II" which is the combo card with Wireless LAN. 2. The driver version is changed from 3.x.x to 2.x.x. This is because there are some big changes to the driver internal. Although the driver functionality is completely the same. Even though the number of the version is reduced from 3.x.x to 2.x.x, the 2.x.x is the newer version. 3. This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. Hint: ----- For modem driver installation, if your supported ThinkPad has: - Ethernet + Modem feature, install ThinkPad AL Modem II driver - Ethernet + Wireless LAN + Modem feature, install AMR Modem II driver - Ethernet + Bluetooth + Modem feature, install Intel PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter Modem driver. WHAT THIS PACKAGES DOES ----------------------- This package provides the Modem driver for Windows2000 and WindowsXP users. The Modem driver enables or updates the Modem function of ThinkPad AMR Modem of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p - ThinkPad T23, T30 - ThinkPad X22, X23, X24 To determine if you should update the Modem driver, refer to the "SUMMARY OF CHANGES" section. To update the modem driver, refer to the "INSTALLATION GUIDE" section. INSTALLATION GUIDE ------------------ NOTES: - To determine if you should update the Modem drive, refer to the Summary of Changes section. - ThinkPad Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards for this package. Installing 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start and then click Run. 5. Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK. 6. Follow the instructions. If you see the message 'Digital Signature Not Found' appears, please click the OK button to continue installing. 7. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. Uninstalling 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Click Start, select Settings(Windows2000), then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click(Windows2000) or Single-click(WindowsXP) the Add/Remove Programs icon. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem. 6. Click the Change/Remove button. 7. Click the Yes button in the confirmation window. 8. When asked to restart the system, click the Yes button. If you do not remove the modem H/W, then Windows will detect the modem in the next boot. Unattended installing This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. (Assume the location of extracted files is C:\Drivers\Win\Modem) 4. Click Start and then click Run. 5. Type C:\Drivers\Win\Modem\Setup.EXE -S, then click OK. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- If there is an alphabet letters in the version number, check the date stamp of each file which version is installed. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, select Find, then click For Files or Folders. 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type the file name listed above in the table. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. For Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start and then click Seach. 3. Click All files and folders. 4. In the All or part of the file name: field, type each file name. 5. In the Look in: field, select C: drive. 6. Click More Advanced Options, then check Search subfolders. 7. Click the Search button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. To check the driver version. For Windows 2000 1. Start Windows 2000 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-Click the Phone and Modem Options icon. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem then click the Properties button. 6. Select the Diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem button. 7. Check Command | Response window to check the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed. For Windows XP 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 3. Click Printers and Other Hardware and then click Phone and Modem Options icon. Or double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Agere Systems AC'97 Modem then click the Properties button. 6. Select Diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem button. 7. Check Command | Response window to check the result of ATI3.
