The Wireless LAN driver enables or updates the Wireless LAN function of the following ThinkPad computers with the following adapters - Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad R32 To determine if you should update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Installation instructions ------------------------- Windows 98 Update install 1. Start Windows 98. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the System icon. 5. Click the Device Manager tab. 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters or Other devices. 7. Right-click Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter in the Network adapters section or PCI Network Controller in the Other devices section and then click Properties. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click the Update Driver button. 10. Click the Next button in Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box. 11. Select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now.(Recommended) and then click Next. 12. Select Specify a location: only. 13. Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER in the Specify a location: box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 14. Click Next. 15. Click Next. The driver installation starts. 16. Click Finish when the installation completes. 17. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Clean install: (Add New Hardware Wizard) If this is the first boot of Windows after installing the Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter in the computer, then Windows detects the card automatically. 1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 2. Start Windows 98. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed. 3. Click Next. 4. Select Search for the best driver for your device. (recommended) and then click Next. 5. Select Specify a location: only. 6. Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER in the Specify a location: box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 7. Click Next. 8. Click Next. The driver installation starts. 9. If "Insert Disk" window opened, click OK and type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER in Copy files from: box. 10. Click OK. 11. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 12. Start Windows NT and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the Network icon. 5. The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed if this is the first time configuring the Network. If not, go to step 22. First Network Configuration 6. Click the Yes button. 7. Select Wired to the network. 8. Click the Next button. 9. Click the Select from list... button. 10. Click the Have Disk... button. 11. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 12. Click the OK button. 13. Select Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter. 14. Click the OK button. 15. Click the Next button. 16. Follow the instructions on the screen. 17. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files. (It is usually C:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's X:\i386 directory.) 18. If the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks is shown again, Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER and follow the prompts. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 19. Follow the instructions on the screen. 20. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 21. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system. Adding Wireless LAN to Network Configuration 22. Click the Adapters tab. 23. Click the Add... button. 24. Click the Have Disk... button. 25. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\DRIVER in the Insert Disk dialog box. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 26. Click the OK button. 27. Select Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter. 28. Click the OK button. 29. Follow the instructions on the screen. 30. Click the Close button. 31. Follow the instructions on the screen. 32. Click Yes when prompted to restart the system. Aironet Client Utility 1. Start Windows. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. In the run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANCSC\Utility\Setup.EXE, and click OK to start the installation process. If you have extracted the files to a different location, specify this location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system. Determine which version is installed ------------------------------------ 1. Open the Aironet Client Utility. 2. Click on the Status button. 3. It lists the version of the driver. 4. Click Ok. 5. Click on the About button. 6. It displays the version of the utility.
