Windows Me/2000/XP support: - ThinkPad s31 Windows NT 4.0 support: - ThinkPad R30, R31 Installation Guide ------------------ (Note) - To determine if you should update the utility programs, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section of each small package. - ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for this package. INSTALL: 1. Start Windows 98/Me/2000/XP or Windows NT4.0. For Windows 2000/XP and Windows NT 4.0, logon with a User ID of Administrator. 2. Extract this package onto the hard drive. 3. Click 'Start' -> 'Run...'. 4. Type [Program Path]\SETUP, and click OK. Program Path is the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. (Note) - From Version A-1.30, package structure was re-organized. If you already installed "Utility Wizard package", please uninstall it first before you install this package. Then you need to install the following package too. - IBM ThinkPad Presentation Director (Windows 98/Me/2000/XP or later only) - If you install newer version after uninstalling previous version on Windows 2000/XP, reboot the system after uninstallation. UNINSTALL: Uninstallation is supported by Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. You have to logon with the user ID authorized as an administrator on Windows NT4.0/2000/XP. Silent Installation Guide (for Unattended Installation support) --------------------------------------------------------------- (Note) This is for system administrators' use only. When you type [Program Path]\SETUP in the above installation guide, add "-S -SMS" parameter to SETUP. Please close the "Battery MaxiMiser Gauge" from taskbar before using "Microsoft 802.1x Authentication Client" for Windows 98. <1.32> -(Fix) Uninstallation may not complete correctly while some modules are running. -(Fix) Global battery settings may not work correctly. <1.33> -(Fix) LCD brightness setting changed using hotkey will be lost by changing power source, when a Battery MaxiMiser power scheme is selected. <1.33a> -(Fix) Screen blinks periodically when Battery MaxiMiser Gauge is on the system tray. <1.33b> -(Fix) CPU speed setting for AC of some Battery MaxiMiser preset schemes is not correct. <1.34> -(New) Support for ThinkPad Software Installer Ver 2.0 which downloads the latest packages from the IBM Web site. -(New) Support for Remove and Replace Battery menu in Battery MaxiMiser Gauge. -(New) Battery MaxiMiser no longer supports CD Audio, DVD Movie, Word Processing/E-mail, Dark room, and On Screen Presentation preset schemes. -(New) Battery MaxiMiser does not support CPU speed settings on Windows XP on condition that the setting will not take effect. <1.35> -(Fix) LCD brightness of Battery MaxiMiser Power Scheme will not change when AC adapter is plugged-in, if OS starts without an AC adapter. Installation Guide ------------------ HOW TO DETERMINE WHAT VERSION IS INSTALLED: Method 1) 1. Start Battery MaxiMiser Wizard and see the first page. 2. You will see the version information on the screen. Method 2) 1. Start the Battery Information program. The main screen will be displayed. 2. Select 'About...' system menu. 3. (Windows NT4.0) 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type in "csmbatt.sys". 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 5. Click the Search Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for csmbatt.sys. If the file is not found, then the battery driver is not installed on your system. 6. In the Found part of the window, select the "csmbatt.sys" file located in "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS". 7. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the file. (Windows XP) 1. Start Windows XP. 2. For Windows XP with Classic Start Menu, click Start, point to Search, and click For Files or Folders. Otherwise, click 'Start' -> 'Search'. 3. In the 'Search Companion' panel, click on 'All files and folders'. 4. In the 'All or part of the file name:' field, type in "csmbatt.sys". 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard Drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click the 'Search' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for csmbatt.sys. If the file is not found, then the battery driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Search Results panel, select the "csmbatt.sys" file located in "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS". 8.
