WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES
----------------------
This package provides the Wireless LAN driver, Utility Software for
the following Wireless LAN adapter for Windows 98 SE/NT 4.0/2000/XP.

  - IBM 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter

This release supports the following systems:

  - ThinkPad X31
  - ThinkPad X40 (*2)
  - ThinkPad R50p (*1)
  - ThinkPad R51 (*1)
  - ThinkPad T41p (*1)

  NOTES: (*1) Only Windows 2000/XP are supported.
         (*2) Only Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP are supported.

(Note)
 -If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP
  Service Pack 1 and do not use WPA encryption, IBM recommends to
  uninstall Q826942 (WPA Supplicant update rollup package in
  Windows XP) and Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in
  Windows XP).
  To check if the Q826942 or Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it:
     1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
     2. Click Start and then click Control Panel
     3. Click Add or Remove Programs
     4. Click Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q826942 or
              Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485 
        if it is listed under Currently installed programs
     5. Click Remove and follow the instructions on the screen.
     NOTE: The above action will remove all the fixes within the
     update rollup package, Q826942. You may need to re-install
     the other specific hotfixes you expect for this rollup
     package.

 -If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless
  Configuration service if already installed.
  To check if the service is installed and to stop it:
  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel
  3. Double-click Administrative Tools then Services
  4. Double-click Wireless Configuration if it is listed.
  5. Change Startup type to Disabled if it is not.
  6. Click OK

You may need to re-enter security information after updating the
Wireless LAN driver.

To determine if you should update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to
the Summary of Changes section.

Installation instructions
-------------------------
NOTE: The following software must be updated when you install this package.

 - IBM Access Connections ver. 3.0 or later
 - Hotkey Features for Windows 98/Me/NT/2K/XP ver. 1.10.04 or later

NOTE: ThinkPad Software Installer provides install and uninstall wizards
      for the Wireless LAN Driver for the following operating systems:

 - Microsoft Windows 2000
 - Microsoft Windows XP


Device Driver Installation Instructions
---------------------------------------

Windows 2000/XP
1. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions.

Windows 98 SE
1. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is prerequisite. If your
   computer do not have WMI installed, go to Microsoft's web site and
   download the latest WMI and install it first.
2. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions.

Windows NT 4.0

 1. Start Windows NT 4.0.
 2. Click Start, click Settings and click Control Panel.
 3. Double-click Network icon.
 4. If this is the first time to configure the Network, it will display
    Network Configuration dialog box, then proceed to the next step.
    If not, go to step 14.

 5. Click Yes.
 6. Select Wired to the network.
 7. Click Next.
 8. Click Select from list.... 
 9. Click Have Disk.. .
10. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf
    file in Insert Disk dialog box.
11. Click OK.
12. Select 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter.
13. Follow the instructions that follows and reboot the system.

<Add  Ethernet to Network Configuration>

14. Click the Adapters tab.
15. Click Add....
16. Click Have Disk... .
17. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf file
    in Insert Disk dialog box.
18. Click OK.
19. Select 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter.
20. Click OK.
21. Click Close.
22. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
23. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

24. Run Setup.exe and follow the instructions.


Windows NT 4.0 Unattended Installation
-------------------------------------
To install the IBM 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter Driver without
any interruption, please following these steps. This is for system
administrators' use only.

 1. Start Windows NT 4.0, logon with administrative privileges.

 2. Copy the I386 Folder from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM to the hard
    drive.

 3. From Service Pack 6a CD run sp6i386 /X and extract the Service
    Pack 6a file to hard drive. Specify $OEM$ when prompted for target
    directory.

 4. Create the following folder structure with the following files:

How to check Wireless LAN Driver version
----------------------------------------
To check the version of the Wireless LAN Driver that is installed
on your system:

Windows 2000/XP
 1. Open Device Manager
 2. Double click 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter to open Adapter
    Property window.
 3. Click the Driver tab.

Windows 98 SE/NT 4.0
 1. Double click wireless status icon in system tray and open
    Configuration Utility.
 2. Click the About tab.


How to check Configuration Utility version
------------------------------------------
To check the version of the Configuration Utility that is installed
on your system:

Windows 98 SE/NT 4.0
 1. Double-click the wireless status icon in system tray and open the
    Configuration Utility.
 2. Click the About tab.


How to check WPA Support Program version
----------------------------------------
To check the version of WPA support program that is installed to your
system, follow the following instrucitons:

Windows XP
 1. Open Wireless Network Connection Properties for 11b/g Wireless LAN
    Mini PCI Adapter.
 2. Check the AEGIS Protocol(IEEE 802.1x).

Windows 2000
 1. Open Local Area Connction Properties for 11b/g Wireless LAN mini PCI
    Adapter.
 2. Check the AEGIS Protocol(IEEE 802.1x).
