November 06, 1998 IBM ThinkPad 380XD/385XD System Program Service Diskette Version 1.14 ======================================================================== What This Diskette Does ----------------------- The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 380XD, 385XD To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. (New) Support for 128 MB memory option. - (Fix) While the LCD is turned off for power saving, no warning beeps sound if the power switch is depressed. - (Fix) Password can not be input when the system goes into standby mode (rather than suspend) by the suspend timer function if the system is attached to a Port Replicator. - (Fix) If the system is powered with battery power, some PC Cards can not be shut down correctly when the system is shut down. - (Fix) (Windows 98 APM mode only) With an IBM 10/100 EtherJet CardBus Adapter with 56K Modem installed, the system reboots without returning to normal operation automatically from hibernation mode when the system is turned on. - (Fix) (Windows 98 APM Mode only) Microsoft IntelliMouse is disabled when the system returns to normal operation from the standby mode. - (Fix) (Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 only) A garbage may appear on the Windows Desktop screen. - (Fix) (OS/2 HPFS format only) If there is an unformatted hard disk partition other than the HPFS formatted hard disk partition where a hibernation file is to be created, the system can't go into the hibernation mode. <1.12> None <1.11> - (New) Support for Windows 98. - (Fix) The system hangs when the system returns to normal operation from the hibernation mode if the resource of USB port is changed. - (Fix) The value of "screen off timer" option is changed when the system enters presentation mode. - (Fix) TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) application program may report invalid memory information. - (Fix) Serial mouse does not work when the system returns to normal operation from hibernation mode. - (Fix) (OS/2 Warp 4.0 with FixPak 005 installed only) If RediSafe function is enabled, CHKDSK command does not run in the command prompt when a command prompt remains opened and the system goes into the suspend mode, then the system returns to normal operation. <1.01> - (Fix) The keys may not work when the power-on password is entered and a key is depressed immediately. <1.00> - (Fix) The system hangs if the system goes into suspend mode and then returns to normal operation as soon as a hibernation file is created. - (Fix) The system can not go into suspend mode if the AC adapter is disconnected while the suspend mode indicator lamp is blinking. - (Fix) The system can not go into hibernation mode after the system goes into suspend mode and then returns to normal operation if RediSafe function is enabled. - Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Port Replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors: 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test. 11. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested. 12. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer.
