IBM ThinkPad 770/770E/770ED Aug 14, 1998 System Program Service Diskette Version 1.22 ============================================ What This Diskette Does ----------------------- The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 770/770E/770ED To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please refer to the "Summary of Change" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. Released Version ---------------- Version 1.00 A fix for some problems Version 1.10 Support new functions and A fix for some problems Version 1.21 Support for 770E/770ED and Windows 98 Version 1.22 A fix for some problems Summary of Change ----------------- Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00> - (Fix) System hangs when connecting to the network using CardBus card in battery operation. - (Fix) Audio sound playback sometimes becomes slow after resume from suspend mode or hibernation mode in battery operation. - (Fix) Audio sound sounds continuously after resume from low battery suspend mode or low battery hibernation mode. - (Fix) Resume hang intermittently occurs when resuming from suspend mode. - (Fix) Key input is disabled if password is entered incorrectly more than three times when resuming from suspend mode by timer resume function or modem RI signal. <1.10> - (New) Supported 8.1GB HDD. - (Fix) If you touch keyboard right after entering power on password, Key may not be entered. - (Fix) If you run the diagnostics with the following condition, the error message may be shown even if there is no problem. - PCMCIA test with Selectadock - Serial Port test with Selectadock - DSP test <1.21> - (New) Support for 770E/770ED and Windows 98 - (Fix) The resume password prompt is illegible when resume from suspend in OS/2. - (Fix) TCO application may report invalid information for memory. - (Fix) The workaround for the cardbus card which does not support clock run protocol is implemented. - (Fix) System hangs intermittently in PC DOS7. - (Fix) Screen blank problem occurs intermittently in SPSD 1.10. - (Fix) TP770 docked SelectaDock III does not come up HDD indicator. <1.22> - (Fix) After the network card is installed,when user closes/opens the LCD, a blank screen appears on NT. - (Fix) 217/93/9210 error (unexpected result of drive diag) occurs on slim DVD drive. - (Fix) ACPI Revision update - (Fix) ThinkPad 770 CMOS setting should be "ACPI Disable". (TP770E/TP770ED system does not have this problem.) (Important Notice) To apply this fix, the following operation is required. 1. start Easy-Setup by power on with F1-key. 2. click on "Config" icon. 3. click on "Initialize" icon. 4. click on "OK". 5. click on "Exit". - (Fix) Support security funtion for HDD (HDD password) which is in the docking station. - (Fix) IDE device is not detected after you hibernate the thinkpad and cold dock it to the docking station - (Fix) Password can not be input, when the system is put into standby mode (rather than suspend) by the suspend timer function when attached to a docking station. - (Fix) When the power on password is set in Windows98 and the system is put into standby mode (rather than suspend) by other conditions, the password icon screen comes up by a key input after the screen goes blank by the screen timer off function. Updating System Program ----------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Select Config, then select Initialize. 11. Select OK to initialize the system. Run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors: 12. Turn off the computer, press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. 13. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test. 14. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested. 15. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer. System Program Information -------------------------- If you update the BIOS from Diskette Version 1.10 or later to Diskette Version 1.00, error code 19153 is appeared. In this case, power-off then power-on the system. Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking Easy-Setup and selecting Config followed by System Board. The BIOS P/N and the date can be viewed by invoking Easy-Setup menu. Simple Boot Flag function ------------------------- This function automatically optimizes the behavior and boot performance of the BIOS and operating system, based on the installed operating system and previous boot. If this function is Enabled and once a Plug and Play-capable operating system, such as Windows 98., is installed, the system BIOS does not configure such hardware resources as system interruptions, memory windows, and I/O port ranges for all the devices in the system. If you are going to use a non-Plug and Play-capable operating system, disable this function so that the BIOS will configure hardware resources. ] (Important Notice) If you use Windows95/98 and the other OSs(other than Winddows95/98) on the same system, you are required to set this Simple Boot Flag to disable using Easy-Setup every time to boot OSs other than Windows95/98. Simple Boot Flag can be set in Quick Boot which can be reached in Config icon in Easy-Setup.
