What This Package Does ---------------------- The ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad T21 The supported operating systems for this update utility are as follows: - Windows 95 OSR2 or later - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Windows 2000 - Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later To determine if you have to update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Change" section. It sometimes causes network failure after resume from suspend. - (Fix) Some PCI video cards in docking station do not work after reboot with Ctrl+Alt+Del reset. - (Fix) Device Access indicator LED sometimes stays on after hibernation wakeup on Windows NT4. - (Fix) Access to CD-ROM in docking station becomes slow after resume from suspend on Windows 98. - (New) Power Management Update - enhancement of CPU thermal controls designed. <1.04 - KZET22WW> CAUTION for users with the Intel/Xircom MiniPCI combo cards: This BIOS version or later will only work with Intel Boot Agent(IBA) 4.0 or later for WakeOnLan(WOL) based remote installations. If you plan to do remote installations with IBA versions prior to 4.0, then you must use a previous BIOS version to 1.03. Failure to do so may cause the ThinkPad system to hang. - (New) Intel Boot Agent 3.0 support. - (New) Modified SMBIOS Type 3 to report AssetNumber in EEPROM User Asset Data under the "Asset Tag Number" field. - (Fix) Fn key features don't work after wakeup from hibernation while a ThinkPad docks to a docking station without CD-ROM drive in both ultrabay 2000. - (Fix) Resuming from screen off state needs pressing a key two times. (Windows Me and Windows 2000) - (Fix) A hard disk password is requested after warm docking to a docking station which has a HDD adapter without a hard disk drive in its ultrabay 2000. - (Fix) Hang up occurs when suspend/resume is done on a ThinkPad with HDD adapter without a hard disk drive in ultrabay 2000. - (Fix) ACPI compatible Linux hangs up at boot timing. - (Fix) System shutdown takes long time under Windows98 after hot-remove from the docking station with a SuperDisk drive in ultrabay 2000. - (Fix) Flashes appears on CRT screen when opening ThinkPad Configuration in WindowsNT 4.0. - (Fix) Some Matrox video card does not work. - (Fix) POST 189 error. - (Fix) BIOS HDD off timer is still working on WindowsMe/2000. - (Fix) Parallel FDD is not detected after undock. - (Fix) Reboot from BIOS-call causes system hang. - (Fix) Systemm can't boot from a hard disk with partition ID of x5h.(n is 1 or greater) - (New) D0-stepping Pentium III support - (New) BIOS Copyright string is changed - (Fix) Normal power-on without AC power causes WOL when 3Com Mini-PCI is attached. - (Fix) RI resume from PC-Card modem can not be disabled on Windows 98. <1.05 - KZET23WW> - (New) Add SuperDisk Boot disable selection to allow SuperDisk drive to be assigned fixed letter. - (Fix) Power-on password function has problem. - (Fix) Wrong spell is present in BIOS setup - (Fix) Cannot boot from CD-ROM when CD-ROM follows network boot in boot order. - (Fix) Suspend/Resume after attaching 2nd HDD with Hard disk password cause system hang. - (Fix) PCI power Management is disabled after suspend/resume on Windows 2000. - (Fix) PC card is sometimes configured abnormally during POST. - (Fix) System may restart automatically when wake up from hibernation on Windows 95. - (Fix) DMA channel of ECP parallel port may not be available on Windows Me and Windows 2000. <1.06 - KZET25WW> - (New) Add F1 prompt message display disable selection. - (Fix) Screen is not displayed to external display after undocking under Windows 2000. - (Fix) Wording of PCI IRQ setting in BIOS setup is misleading. - (Fix) Screen is blackout even if LID open after boot with LID close. - (Fix) "Save Changes" and then power on/off can not set keep the setting. - (Fix) If 3.3V 16bit PC card is attached, POST takes 3 seconds longer. - (Fix) Device attached to UltraPort does not work after reboot under Windows 2000. - (Fix) 84-key is selected on cold boot under Windows NT4.0. Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTES: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Before using Flash Update with Windows 98 Second Edition, IBM recommends that you download and apply the "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement" from the Microsoft Support WWW Site. After you have opened the above link, click on http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp 2. Scroll down to "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement" and click it. 3. Click Next. 4. If you agree, accept the License to download the file. 5. Run the executable that you just downloaded. 1) Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2) Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3) Start Windows 95/98/Me/2000 or Windows NT 4.0 on the target computer. 4) Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5) Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. (e.g. C:\Temp) 6) Click on Start button. 7) Click on Run.. 8) Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad Update Utility. (e.g. C:\Temp\kzuj04us.exe) Then press Enter. 9) Follow the instructions. 10) When completed, system is automatically turned off. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, do the following to confirm the change is correctly applied. 6. Make sure the no diskette is inserted in the diskette drive. 7. Turn on the computer; then, while the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 8. Check BIOS Version. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. BIOS version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and select System Information from the Help menu or System Information button. BIOS information can also be found by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
