What This Package Does ----------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the system BIOS program stored in certain ThinkPad i Series systems to address operational issues, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. Only the following ThinkPad i Series Type and Model numbers are supported: - ThinkPad i Series 1400: Type 2621 - 422, 429, 442, 482, 486, 489, 49x, 4Ex, 4Fx, 4Gx, - ThinkPad i Series 1500: Type 2651 - 542, 549, 54G, 562, 569, 56G, 592, 5FF The supported operating systems are as follows: - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Windows Me - Windows 2000 - Windows XP To determine if you should update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. After you have opened the above link, click http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp 2. Scroll down to Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement and click it. 3. Click Next. 4. Accept the License to download the file. 5. Run the executable that you just downloaded. Updating System BIOS Procedures 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 98/Me/2000 on the target computer. 4. Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5. Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. (e.g. C:\Temp) 6. Click Start. 7. Click Run. 8. Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility. (e.g. C:\Temp\KRB126US.EXE) Then press Enter. 9. Follow the instructions. Windows will shut down automatically and System Program Service Diskette screen appears. 10. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information. 11. Press Esc key to return to the menu. 12. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Power on the system. 2. When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears at the bottom right hand corner, press the F1 key. 3. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appears. 4. Select System Information. 5. BIOS version is displayed at System BIOS Version line.
