What This Package Does ----------------------- The ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 570E - ThinkPad i Series 1157 (Note) This system program can only be installed in ThinkPad 570E ThinkPad i Series 1157 models. It can not be installed in other models. The supported operating systems are as follows: - Windows 95 OSR2 or later (See "Known Limitations" section) - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Windows Me - Windows 2000 - Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later To determine if you have to update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Change" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. Updating System Program ----------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Before using Flash Update with Windows 98 Second Edition, IBM recommends that you download and apply the "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement" from the Microsoft Support WWW Site. After you have opened the above link, click on http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp 2. Scroll down to "Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement" and click it. 3. Click Next. 4. Accept the License to download the file. 5. Run the executable that you just downloaded. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 95/98/2000/Me or Windows NT 4.0 on the target computer. 4. Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5. Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. (e.g. C:\Temp) 6. Click Start button. 7. Click Run. 8. Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility. (e.g. C:\Temp\IUUJ04US.EXE) Then press Enter 9. Follow the instructions. Windows shutting down automatically and System Program Service Diskette screen appears. 10. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 11. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 12. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Do the following to make the changes effective. 13. Make sure the no diskette is inserted in the diskette drive. 14. Turn on the computer. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically. 15. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 16. Press F9 key. 17. Select Yes to load default configuration. System Program Information -------------------------- Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utilit contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by invoking BIOS Setup Utility. The Slave controller version can be viewed by running the ThinkPad Configuration Utility from your operating system and selecting either System Information from the Help menu or by clicking the System Information button.
