What This Package Does ---------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. Note: A hard disk password should be entered at resume time from suspend after hot swapped into above systems. <2.05 - 1IET66WW> NOTE: Version 1.03(1IHT16WW) or higher of the Embedded Controller Program is required. - (Fix) (Windows XP) Some multi-function type of CardBus cards may not work after resuming normal operation from standby mode. - (Fix) Boot priority for the network boot does not become to the default setting, if an F9 key is pressed twice in IBM BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) (Windows XP and Windows 2000) If the LCD panel is closed immediately after Fn + F12 keys to go into the hibernation mode are pressed, the LCD screen may remain turned off after the LCD panel is opened. <2.06 - 1IET67WW> NOTE: Version 1.03(1IHT16WW) or higher of the Embedded Controller Program is required. - (New) Enhance thermal control. Installation instructions ------------------------- NOTES: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Before using this BIOS Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, IBM recommends applying the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start a supported version of Windows on the target computer. 4. Make the temporary directory on the hard disk drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5. Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. 6. Click the Start button, then click Run. 7. In the Open dialogue box, specify the utility filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility. (E.g. C:\Temp\1IUJ09US.EXE) Then press the Enter key. 8. Follow the instructions on the screen. 9. When completed, the system is automatically turned off. WARNING: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 10.Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then power on the computer. 11.While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 12.Verify the BIOS version and date. Unattended Installation: 1. Do the same instructions above from step 1 to step 6. 2. Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility with options " -s -a -s". (E.g. C:\Temp\1IUJ09US.EXE -s -a -s) Then press Enter. Windows shutting down automatically. Then, system BIOS program is updated without any user interaction. The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. 1. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. The BIOS version and date are displayed on the first screen of the IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
