ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility

This program is language independent and can be used with any language
system.

What This Package Does
----------------------
This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility can update the system program stored
in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand
functions.

This release supports the following systems:
  - ThinkPad A20m

The supported operating systems are as follows:

  - Windows 95 OSR2 or later (See known limitations section)
  - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition
  - Windows 2000
  - Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later

To determine if you have to update the system program, refer to the
"Summary of Change" section.

To update the system program, refer to the "Installation 
Instructions" section.

 - (New) Support for ThinkPad A20m.

<1.04 - IWET48WW>
- (Fix) On systems using Microsoft Windows 95/98, when you disable a 
        serial or infrared port from Device Manager or from the
        ThinkPad Configuration program, a blue error screen will 
        appear. 
- (Fix) The Wake On LAN feature does not work. 
- (Fix) On systems using Microsoft Windows 2000, a slight noise is 
        heard when entering standby mode. 
- (Fix) When the system is connected to a docking station that 
        contains a hard disk drive and an EtherJet PC Card, the system 
        will hang when entering suspend mode. 

Installation Instructions
-------------------------
Notes: 
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
  the system program.

- If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port 
  replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.

- Before using Flash Update with Windows 98 Second Edition,IBM 
  recommends that you download and apply the Windows 98 Second 
  Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Support WWW Site.

1. After you have opened the above link, click 
   http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp
2. Scroll down to Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement
   and click.
3. Click Next.
4. Read the the License to download the file and if you agree,
   click yes.
5. Run the executable that you just downloaded.

Updating System BIOS Procedures

1.  Print these instructions or display them on another computer.
2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3.  Start Windows 98/2000 on the target computer.
4.  Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, 
    C:\Temp)
5.  Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and 
    store the file into the temporary directory. (e.g. C:\Temp)
6.  Click the Start button.
7.  Click Run.
8.  Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad 
    BIOS Update Utility. (e.g. C:\Temp\iwuj02us.exe) Then press Enter
9.  Follow the instructions.  

Windows shuts down automatically and the System Program Service 
Diskette screen appears.

10. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program.

    Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been
    completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL
    IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.


BIOS Information
----------------
Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the
following system BIOS program.

Embedded controller version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad
Configurator from your operating system and select System Information
from the Help menu or System Information button. Embedded controller
information can also be found by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility.

The BIOS Version can be viewed by selecting System Information
in the BIOS Utility menu:
 
 1. Power on the system.
 2. When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears
    at the bottom left hand corner, press the F1 key.
 3. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appear.
 4. Select System Information.
 5. BIOS version is displayed at System BIOS Version line.

     1. To execute this package on Windows 95, the following modules
        are required:
          - MSVCRT.DLL
          - MFC42.DLL
