IBM ThinkPad A20p July 28, 2000 ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility Version 1.01 (IVET55WW) ====================================================================== What This Package Does ---------------------- The ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad A20p The supported operating systems are as follows: - Windows 95 OSR2 or later (See known limitations section) - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Windows 2000 - Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later To determine if you have to update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Change" section. To update the system program, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Released Versions ----------------- Version 1.00 (IVET54WW) (Initial Release) Version 1.01 (IVET55WW) (Function update) Summary of Changes ------------------ Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - IVET54WW> - (New) Support for ThinkPad A20p. <1.01 - IVET55WW> - (Fix) On systems using Microsoft Windows 2000, a slight noise is heard when entering standby mode. - (Fix) When the system is connected to a docking station that contains a hard disk drive and an EtherJet PC Card, the system will hang when entering suspend mode. - (Fix) The default boot priority for Wake On LAN was increased. - (Fix) If the system is using 128MB SDRAM memory in combination with 64MB SDRAM memory, the system will not enter hibernation mode. - (Fix) The BIOS Setup screen comes up automatically after a BIOS update. - (Fix) The system resumes automatically when a USB mouse is attached to the dock. - (Fix) Wake On LAN and Flash Over LAN settings change when F9 (Setup Defaults) is pressed in the BIOS Setup screen. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Before using Flash Update with Windows 98 Second Edition,IBM recommends that you download and apply the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Support WWW Site. After you have opened the above link, click http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp 2. Scroll down to Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement and click. 3. Click Next. 4. Read the the License to download the file and if you agree, click yes. 5. Run the executable that you just downloaded. Updating System BIOS Procedures 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 98/2000 on the target computer. 4. Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5. Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. (e.g. C:\Temp) 6. Click the Start button. 7. Click Run. 8. Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility. (e.g. C:\Temp\KQUF22US.EXE) Then press Enter 9. Follow the instructions. Windows shuts down automatically and the System Program Service Diskette screen appears. 10. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system BIOS program. Embedded controller version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and select System Information from the Help menu or System Information button. The BIOS Version can be viewed by selecting System Information in the BIOS Utility menu: 1. Power on the system. 2. When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears at the bottom left hand corner, press the F1 key. 3. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appear. 4. Select System Information. 5.
