What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad 240X To determine if you should update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - 1.03.09> - (New) Initial release for ThinkPad 240X. <1.01 - 1.03.10> - (New) Support for Windows Me. - (Fix) (Windows 2000 and Windows NT) Accessibility options in the ThinkPad Utility do not work. - (Fix) Volume state (level) does not keep after rebooting the system. - (Fix) Sometimes the icon on the task tray does not respond. - (Fix) (Windows 98) USB device does not work after resume from suspend or hibernation mode. - (Fix) In the "IBM BIOS Setup Utility, it shows CPU ID type as Pentium III processor even though the system has the Celeron processor. <1.03 - 1.03.12> - (Fix) With the power-on password installed, a password prompt appears on the screen when the system reboots. - (Fix) The LCD has blank screen when the LCD panel is closed immediately after the system is powered on and then Windows logo screen appears. - (Fix) "Modem for Legacy OS" option in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility can not be enabled. - (Fix) The Celeron model shows "Processor Serial Number" menu (for the Pentium III model) in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility. <1.04 - 1.03.13> - (Fix) If the following conditions are met, the LCD screen has blank screen when the LCD panel is opened. 1. Enable 'Will not suspend even if LCD is closed' option. 2. Attach an external display. 3. Change the display output location to 'External Display'. 4. Close the LCD panel, then remove the external display. 5. Open the LCD panel. <1.05 - 1.03.14> - (Fix) Beeps are loud when the system detects a PC Card in the slot. - (Fix) A beep is loud when the system is shut down. - (Fix) If the IBM Numeric Keypad is attached, the NumLock key must be depressed to use it after the operating system starts up. <1.06 - 1.03.16> - (New) Add the option to hide "Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility" in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility during the system boot. (IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu -> Startup -> BIOS Setup Prompt (F1 Key Message) : Enabled/Disabled) - (Fix) (Windows NT) The LCD may have blank screen when any key is pressed to reset the timer immediately after the LCD timer is activated and the LCD is turned off. - (Fix) The system hangs at IBM logo screen during boot if the IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring PC Card 2 is installed. <1.07 - 1.03.17> - (Fix) The system does not enter hibernation mode by timer from standby mode while the LCD panel is closed. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Note: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed and system has restarted, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Press the F9 key. 11. Select Yes to load default configuration. 12. Press the F10 key. 13. Select Yes. 14. The system restarts automatically. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS version and the date can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. To enter the IBM BIOS Setup Utility; 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and BIOS Date.
