What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in certain ThinkPad i Series systems to address operational issues, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. Only the following ThinkPad i Series Type and Model numbers are supported: - ThinkPad i Series 1400: Type 2621 - 422, 429, 442, 482, 486, 489, 49x, 4Ex, 4Fx, 4Gx, - ThinkPad i Series 1500: Type 2621 - 542, 549, 54G, 562, 569, 56G, 592, 5FF To determine if you should update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. Updating System BIOS Program ---------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - Make sure the BIOS diskette is write protected. 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. Power on the system. 2. When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears at the bottom right hand corner, press the F1 key. 3. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appears. 4.
