What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in certain ThinkPad i Series systems to address operational issues, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad i Series 1200 - ThinkPad i Series 1300 To determine if you should update the system program, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Installation instructions ------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Make sure the SPSD diskette is write protected. - If system hangs during the system program update with the message: " Updating System BIOS ....... " or the following message appears at the end of system program update: " >> Error << A hardware error occurred" the system program may not have updated. Power off the system then power on again to see if the system works. If the system does not work, the system has a problem. Contact a service center to have the system repaired. If the system does work, the system program has not been updated. You can continue to use the system with the current BIOS version, but, to update the BIOS, you will need to contact a service center and have the system repaired. (The system can be powered off by holding the power switch in the ON position for approximately 5 seconds, then release it.) 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Power on the system. 2. When the message Press F1 for IBM BIOS setup Utility appears at the bottom left hand corner, press the F1 key. 3. Wait for the BIOS Utility screen to appear. 4.
