Installation instructions ------------------------- >>ATTENTION!!<< -------------------------------------------------------- If you need to downgrade the BIOS from the BIOS version ISB052WW (or higher) to older BIOS version(s) and you have already got the System Program Service Diskette(s) for the older BIOS version(s), please once again get each System Program Service Diskette package for them and then downgrade the BIOS with the diskette(s), which now has new BIOS flash utility to support backward compatibility for the enhancement on password security function implemented in the BIOS version ISB052WW. The System Program Service Diskette(s) should have the version "0.nnFIX" (nn: any numbers) when you once again get it (them). If you already set power-on password and downgrade the BIOS with the diskette whose version is not "0.nnFIX", the current power-on password will be rejected at a power-on password prompt, so the system does not start. In other words, backward compatibility for the enhancement on password security function is not kept. In such the case, you have to take your computer to IBM repair center to remove the power-on password. The following System Program Service Diskettes are available for each older BIOS version. BIOS Versions Diskette Versions -------------------- ----------------- ISB050WW 0.50FIX ISB047WW 0.47FIX ISB046WW 0.46FIX ISB042WW 0.42FIX ISB038WW to ISB030WW (Not available) Do not downgrade the BIOS to the version older than ISB038WW because backward compatibility for the enhancement on password security function is not kept. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Notes: - You may be asked to enter the current power-on password during the BIOS update operation if it was set before. Input the current power-on password when the following message appears on the screen during the BIOS update. Please input your password: The supervisor password can not override the power-on password during this operation. - As written on LCCM Compatibility and Configuration Guide', remove the Power-on password prior to flashing the BIOS in LCCM environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - If system hangs during the system program update with the message: Updating System BIOS or the following message appears at the end of system program update: Error A hardware error occurred the system program may not have updated. Power off the system then power on again to see if the system works. If the system does not work, the system has a problem. Contact a service center to have the system repaired. If the system does works, the system program has not been updated. You can continue to use the system with the current BIOS version, but, to update the BIOS, you will need to contact a service center and have the system repaired. (The system can be powered off by holding the power switch in the ON position for approximately 5 seconds, then release it.) 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. When prompted press the 1 key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 5. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then press and hold the power switch for more than 5 seconds to turn off the computer. 6. Turn on the computer with pressing F1 key. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically. 7. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 8. Press F9 key. 9. Select Yes to load default configuration. 10. Press F10 key. 11. Select Yes. 12. The system restart automatically.
