What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 240 To determine if you should update the system program, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. Released Versions ----------------- Version 1.00 (IRET14WW) Problem fixes (Initial release) Version 1.02 (IRET17WW) Problem fixes Summary of Changes ------------------ Where: x.xx : Diskette version yyyyyyyy : BIOS version For example, <1.00 - IRET14WW> means the diskette version is 1.00, and the BIOS version is IRET14WW. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - IRET14WW> - (Fix) Entering IBM BIOS Setup Utility by pressing F1 key is too slow. - (Fix) Incorrect installed memory information at IBM BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) Supervisor password accepts more than 8 unnecessary characters. - (Fix) Audio volume setting is reset after reboot. - (Fix) Remove unnecessary debug statement in POST (Power-on Self Test) when Startup screen is disabled at BIOS setup. <1.02 -IRET17WW> - (New) Mute key (Fn + Backspace keys) can disable POST (Power-on Self Test) beep sound. - (Fix) The LCD display screen intermittently becomes white out when standby mode key (Fn + F3 keys) then any key are pressed quickly. - (Fix) ThinkPad Configuration program displays wrong System Unit Serial Number and System Board Serial Number. - --- Conforming a new type of LCD display panel. Updating System Program ----------------------- To determine if you should update the system program, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed and system has restarted, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Turn on the computer with pressing F1 key. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Press F9 key. 11. Select "Yes" to load default configuration. 12. Press F10 key. 13. Select "Yes". 14. The system restart automatically.
