What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <5.15 : V1.0 R01-A6> - (New) Support for ThinkPad 390 <5.16 : V1.0 R01-A7> - (Fix) (Windows 98) The system hangs after resuming normal operation from suspend mode, if the system is suspended by standby timer and Power On Password is set. - (Fix) System Crash Page: Using IntelliSync 97 to transfer file will hang. <5.17 : V1.0 R01-C0> - (Fix) (OS/2) When the system resumes normal operation from suspend or hibernation mode, sometimes the audio function is not available. - (Fix) (OS/2) When the system resumes normal operation from suspend or hibernation mode, sometimes a short strange noise can be generated. - (Fix) (Windows NT/95/98) The system cannot enter hibernation mode using the suspend by hibernation timer. - (Fix) If the processor speed is not set to "Fixed Max" in BIOS setup, the system hangs after resuming normal operation from hibernation mode. <5.20 : V1.0 R01-C3> - (Fix) (Windows 98) The battery can't show 100% when fully charged. - (Fix) The French keyboard can't accept the 'M' key when it is pressed for password entering. - (Fix) After entering BIOS Setup Utility, the century year will be changed to 20th intermittently. <5.36 : V1.0 R01-E0> - (Fix) The system may hang after rebooting the system if a Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature is attached to the system and the EtherJet is enabled. - (Fix) (Windows 95/98) The system hangs at the Windows logo screen when "Hibernate when battery becomes low" option is enabled and the system goes into hibernation mode, and then turned on. - (Fix) When a DCC2 display is attached to the system and the system is turned on, the external display is not enabled, even though the display device is set to 'Both'. - (Fix) With XIRCOM Combo REM56G-100: The card resources is changed after warm boot. - (Fix) (PC DOS 2000 Japanese) The system can't go into suspend mode. - (Fix) The hibernation function does not work correctly with the hard disk over 8GB. - (Fix) LCD OFF Timer works in about 30 minutes when the timer is set to 60 minutes. - --- Displaying the error report from hard disk S.M.A.R.T. function is removed. <5.37 : V1.0 R01-E1> - (New) Support for ThinkPad Fuel Gauge program for Windows NT 4.0. To use the Fuel Gauge program, please get the another package, "Fuel Gauge for Windows NT 4.0", and install it. <5.44 : V1.0 R01-E9> - (Fix) The system will hang if the Power On Password is set and the system resumes normal operation from hibernation mode or suspend mode. - (Fix) The system will sometimes hang at the ThinkPad logo screen. <5.45 : V1.0 R01-F0> - (Fix) Under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, the system may not respond to any mouse click or key input after resuming normal operation from suspend or hibernation mode. <5.51 : V1.0 R01-F6> - (Fix) When the following conditions are met, the LCD screen becomes blank when the LCD panel is opened. 1. 'Will not suspend even if LCD is closed' option is enabled. 2. The external mouse or keyboard is connected. 3. No external display is connected. 4. The LCD panel is closed. 5. During the LCD panel closed, the external mouse is moved or any key on the external keyboard is depressed. 6. The LCD panel is opened. <5.55 : V1.0 R01-G2> - (New) Support for Windows 2000. - (New) Power Management Update - enhancement of CPU thermal controls designed to take effect during abnormal or fault conditions of the system. - (New) Don't allow the system to enter IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu after warm boot. - (Fix) The password can't be input with the external numeric keypad. <5.58 : V1.0 R01-G5> - (New) Support for Swap Master Driver for Windows 95/98. - (Fix) When the following conditions are met, the LCD screen may become blank. (The screen will be available if Fn+F7 keys are pressed several times.) 1. "Will not suspend even if LCD is closed" option is enabled. 2. The external mouse or keyboard is connected. 3. "LCD off Timer" is set up. 4. No external display is connected. 5. The LCD panel is closed. 6. During the LCD panel closed, the external mouse is moved or any key on the external keyboard is depressed. 7. After the "LCD off Timer" is working, then the LCD panel is opened. - (Fix) After pressing Fn+F11 keys and then rebooting the system, the system enters the IBM BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) The F1 and F2 keys do not work in the IBM BIOS Setup Utility and under the DOS environment. <5.60 : V1.0 R01-G7> - (Fix) When the system is using the Xircom RBE-100 network card in battery operation, the performance of network data transfer in 100M bps mode is slow. - --- Conforming for a new revision of the video chip. - (New) Support for Windows Me (added). <5.61 : V1.0 R01-G7> - (Fix) To aid in increasing main battery life. In order to activate this fix perform the following steps after you complete the BIOS update. 1. Power off the computer. 2. Disconnect the AC Adapter, then remove the battery pack. 3. Wait for five seconds. 4. Insert the battery pack. These steps need to be completed only once with the System Program Service Diskette version 5.61 or later. Once you have completed these steps, you will not need to follow these steps for any future BIOS releases. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Notes: - As written on LCCM Compatibility and Configuration Guide, remove the Power-on password prior to flashing the BIOS in LCCM environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 5. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then press and hold the power switch for more than 5 seconds to turn off the computer. 6. Turn on the computer with pressing F1 key. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility automatically. 7. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 8. Press F9 key. 9. Select Yes to load default configuration. 10. Press F10 key. 11. Select Yes. 12. The system restarts automatically. If you updated the BIOS with the System Program Service Diskette version 5.61 or later, do the following also. 1. Power off the computer. 2. Disconnect the AC Adapter, then remove the battery pack. 3. Wait for five seconds. 4. Insert the battery pack. These steps need to be completed only once with the System Program Service Diskette version 5.61 or later. Once you have completed these steps, you will not need to follow these steps for any future BIOS releases. Refer to <5.61 : V1.0 R01-G7> in the "Summary of Changes" section for the details.
