What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad A20p To determine if you have to update the system program or not, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, refer to the "Installation instructions" section. Released Versions ----------------- Version 1.00 (IVET54WW) Initial Release Version 1.01 (IVET55WW) A fix for some problems Version 1.02 (IVET58WW) Windows Me support Version 1.03 (IVET59WW) A fix for some problems Summary of Changes ------------------ Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00 - IVET54WW> - (New) Support for ThinkPad A20p. <1.01 - IVET55WW> - (Fix) A slight noise is heard with Windows 2000 systems in standby mode. - (Fix) When the system is connected to a docking station which contains a hard disk drive and a EtherJet PC Card, the system will hang when entering suspend mode. - (Fix) Change the default boot priority for Wake On LAN, as the BEV boot (= Ethernet network boot) to be a top priority. - (Fix) The hibernation fail with 192MB(128MB+64MB) memories installed. - (Fix) BIOS setup screen comes up automatically after BIOS update. - (Fix) The system resumes automatically when USB mouse is attached to the dock. - (Fix) Wake On LAN and Flash Over LAN setting changes when F9(Setup Defaults) is pressed in BIOS Setup screen. <1.02 - IVET58WW> - (New) Windows Me support. - (New) Date/Time in BIOS Setup is protected by Supervisor Password. - (New) Return the max CPU speed in SMBIOS "Currrent Speed" field of Processor Information (Type 4). - (New) Intel Pentium-III C0 Step support. - (Fix) CMOS Test of PC-Doctor fails. - (Fix) CMOS error is not displayed. - (Fix) No display appears on LCD even after hot-undocking from a docking station which has the external display. - (Fix) Suspend/resume failure with 20GB HDD for APM OS. - (Fix) Resume failure when "Hibernate when battery becomes low" is enabled. <1.03 - IVET59WW> - (New) Add a 'Lock BIOS settings' menu to BIOS setup. - (Fix) Cannot select a boot device by F12 option when a supervisor password is set. - (Fix) A supervisor cannot update flash BIOS when 'Flash BIOS Updating by End-Users' is disabled in BIOS setup menu and a supervisor password is set. - (Fix) A system enters full-suspend mode with some network PC-cards on Windows NT4. It sometimes causes network failure after resume from suspend. - (Fix) Some PCI video cards in docking station do not work after Ctrl+Alt+Del. - (Fix) HDD indicator LED sometimes stays on after hibernation wakeup on Windows NT4. - (Fix) System fails to wake up from S4(hibernation) by remote wakeup on Windows Me. - (Fix) The serial port is disabled after hibernation wakeup on APM OS. Installation Instructions ------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Make sure the SPSD diskette is write protected. - To check embedded controller version, 1. Version number can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. 2. Run ThinkPad Configuration from operating system, and select System Information from Help menu or System Information button. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu appears. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Press F9 key. 11. Select "Yes" to load default configuration. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. Embedded controller version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and select System Information from the Help menu or System Information button. Embedded controller information can also be found by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
