What This Package Does ---------------------- The ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. NOTE: This problem is concerning a manufacturing issue in a factory. There is no impact for the customer enviroment. If you already installed Version 1.18, you do not need to install Version 1.19. <1.27 - 1FETB7WW> - (Fix) Enhanced the Intel(R) SpeedStep(TM) technology item in IBM BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) (Windows NT) The system must be restarted to take effect of change when unselecting "will not suspend even if LCD is close" in ThinkPad configulation utility. <1.31 - 1FETC1WW> - (Fix) When the system is shut down just after copying file using IBM Microdrive, the system shows error message and it takes longer time to shut down the system. - (Fix) Garbage may appear during resuming from hybernation. - (Fix) (Windows NT) The System hangs after resuming from timer standby, if the system enters standby mode by timer after LCD off timer is executed. - (New) Celeron 1.33GHz CPU (New Stepping level) support. - (Fix) (Windows NT) Garbage displayed on either LCD or monitor while toggling the display. - (Fix) The system with IBM Security Chip may hang, if IBM Security Chip is disabled, CSS is installed and supervisor password is enabled. - (Fix) (Windows 98SE Japanese) After installing Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, the system may hang with blue screen. - (Fix) If power on password or supervisor password is set, password prompt also appears at warm boot. <1.34 - 1FETC4WW> - (Fix) The system hangs up at POST after enabling the serial port to (2F8, IRQ3) - (Fix) BIOS can not keep setting of disabling network devices. - (Fix) Network boot device may be enabled even if it is disabled at Boot menu in BIOS setup. - (Fix) If HDD password is set, password prompt also appears at warm boot. - (Fix) MS intelli USB Optical mouse does not work from cold boot when attached to the port replicator. <3.01 - 1FETE1WW> - (New) New CPU Stepping level B1 support. - (Fix) (Windows XP) The system may freeze at disabling and enabling the parallel port by ThinkPad Configuration utility after changing the parallel port setting to 378/IRQ7 and EPP in BIOS Setup Utility. <3.02 - 1FETE2WW> - (Fix) (Windows 98/Me) The display becomes black when resuming from hibernation. - (Fix) (Windows NT) A display device may not be changed from Intel Graphic properties. - (Fix) (Windows 2000) If battery pack is not in the system, unexpected Reboot or crash may occur during restoring the preload. Installation Instructions ------------------------- NOTES: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. WARNING: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive. 8. While the Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 9. Verify the BIOS version and date. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the System Program Service Diskette contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date as well as the Embedded controller version number can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. 1. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. The BIOS version and date are displayed on the first screen of the IBM BIOS Setup Utility.
