IBM Portable PCMCIA CD-ROM Drive The IBM Portable PCMCIA CD-ROM device is not included in Windows 2000 Professional Beta3, and therefore, will not be automatically installed. When this device is connected to your ThinkPad on Windows 2000, it is required to manually install the driver for this device. This device driver supports the following IBM PCMCIA CD-ROMs devices: 1. IBM 20X-8X PCMCIA CD-ROM drive 2. IBM Portable 4X Speed CD-ROM (PCMCIA) To install this device on your ThinkPad, follow the instructions provided below: 1. Boot and logon to Windows 2000 with an Administrator user account. 2. Extract the drivers onto the hard disk. 3. Insert the CD-ROMÆs PCMCIA card into the PC Card slot. Allow Windows 2000 to detect the device. The "Found New Hardware Wizard" will now startup. 4. Click on [Next]. Select the "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)" option and click [Next]. 5. Check the æSpeicify a locationÆ checkbox under "Optional search locations:" and type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\PCCDROM in the dialog box. Click on [Next] (ensure that this is the only option selected) to continue. 6. Click [Next] again. To "continue the installation" of the æIBM Portable PCMCIA CD-ROM DriveÆ select [Yes] on the "Digital Signature Not Found" window. 7. The OS will now start copying the driver files to your system and the device will be configured. 8. Click [Finish] to complete the device installation. Notice: If you install Windows 2000 from a blank hard drive or fresh installation using the bootable Windows 2000 CD, this PCMCIA CD-ROM drive cannot be used as an installation source. The Windows 2000 SETUP program will not allow you to install the device during SETUP. This PCMCIA CD-ROM device is only available for use after Windows 2000 has been installed on your ThinkPad. "Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)" option and click [Next]. 5.
