This package is required when you install Windows Operating Systems without the Product Recovery function. This package installs the software to detect and configure Intel 830 and 845 chipset on the system board. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. There are following ways for installation. (A) Automatic install with Software Installer (B) Manual install (C) Unattended install (A) Automatic Install with Software Installer Use the ThinkPad Software Installer version 3.01.0503 or higher. The ThinkPad Software Installer will check both installed program in your ThinkPad and our Web site. Then download and update the program automatically if a newer version is available. Refer to the ThinkPad Software Installer package for details. (B) Manual Install Refer to the Manual Install section. (Downloading files) 1. Click once on the underlined file name with the left mouse button. Once this is done, a pop-up window will appear. 2. In this pop-up window, choose (using the left mouse button) the directory you would like to download the file to and click the "Save" button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete without your assistance. 3. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. 4. After being downloaded, the file will need to be extracted. (Extracting files) 5. Locate the directory where the file was downloaded. 6. Locate the file that was just downloaded and double click it using the left mouse button. 7. The file will begin to extract in the directory where the downloaded file is located. (Installing) 8. On Windows XP/2000, make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges. 9. Close all running application programs. 10. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were extracted. 11. Double-click INFINST_ENU file. 12. Follow the instructions on the screen to reboot the computer. 13. Follow the instructions on the screen when new hardware is detected after the reboot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UNATTENDED INSTALL Note: This is for system administrators' use only. - Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and expand the files. - At the command line, execute INFINST_ENU.EXE with the -a -S options. Click Start, then click Run. b. Type infinst_enu.exe -a -a -p C:\INTEL (for example ) in Open column, and then click OK. c. Follow the instructions on the screen to extract INF and CAT files in C:\INTEL folder. You will use INF and CAT files in XP, Win2000, Win98 or Win98SE folders under the C:\INTEL\ICH3-M folder. [Windows 2000] 1. Create the following directory structure under the \$OEM$\$1\drivers\IntelINF. 2. Copy all of the files from C:\INTEL\ICH3-M\Win2000 to the directory created in the step 1. 3. Either modify the default Windows 2000 installation answer file, UNATTEND.TXT, located in , or create a customized answer file. The answer file must include the following information. [Unattended] OemPreinstall = Yes OemPnPDriversPath = "drivers\IntelINF" 4. Run "WINNT.EXE /u: /s:" to install Windows 2000. [Windows 98/98 SE] 1. Copy the Windows 98 INF Files from the C:\INTEL\ICH3-M\Win98 to the setup directory that has Windows 98 Supplement Files for Windows 98 installation. Or, copy the Windows 98 Second Edition INF Files from C:\INTEL\ICH3-M\Win98SE to the setup directory that has Windows 98 Supplement Files for Windows 98 Second Edition installation. 2.
