What This Package Does
-----------------------
This package provides the modem driver for Windows XP.
This package enables or updates the modem function of the following
ThinkPad computers:

   - ThinkPad R30  ( Ethernet Wireless integrated model *1 )
   - ThinkPad R31  ( Ethernet Wireless integrated model *1 )

*1 If your ThinkPad R30/R31 is not an Ethernet Wireless integrated
   model, Use ThinkPad R30 Modem Features (CDC modem) for Windows XP 
   instead of this package.

         already updated the system to this version, 
         you do not need to apply this release.


Installation Instructions
-------------------------
NOTE: If the audio driver has not been installed on the system,
      install the audio driver prior to the modem driver.

 1. Start Windows XP and log on with the user ID authorized as 
    an administrator.
 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
 3. Click Start and then click Run.
 4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
 5. Follow the instructions on the screen.
 6. Restart the system for the driver to take effect.


Determining which version is installed
--------------------------------------
 1. Start Windows XP.
 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
 3. Click the Performance and Maintenance.
 4. Click the System icon.
 5. Click the Hardware tab.
 6. Click the Device Manager button.
 7. Expand the Modem section.
 8. Select Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR.
 9. Right-click Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR, and select
    Properties.
10. Click the Driver tab. The version number will be displayed.
NOTE: This version information does not show minor version.
      For example, the version 3.1.97a shows version 3.1.97.

Determining the minor version
 1. Start Windows XP.
 2. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
 3. Click the Printers and Other Hardware.
 4. Click the Phone and Modem Options.
 5. Click the Modems tab.
 6. Click Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR and then click properties.
 7. Click Diagnostics. See the Hardware ID value in the box.
    Below table shows the driver version and Hardware ID value.
