What This Packages Does ----------------------- This package provides the Modem driver for Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 users. The Modem driver enables or updates the modem function of "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem (MiniPCI Combo)" of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A20m, A20p (*1) - ThinkPad A21m, A21p, A21e (*1) - Thinkpad A22m, A22p, A22e(*1) - ThinkPad T20, T21 (*1) - ThinkPad X20 (*1) - ThinkPad TransNote (*1)(*2) NOTE: *1: With "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem" option. *2: Windows 98SE and 2000 support only The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation purpose. To enable the Ethernet function of the MiniPCI Combo, another package for Ethernet driver is also required. To determine if you should update the Modem driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Modem driver, refer to the "Installation instructions" section. Start Windows 95/98 or NT. If using Windows NT, logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then clck Run. 4. Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. Uninstalling the driver ----------------------- Windows 95/98 1. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.. 3. Double-click the Modem icon. 4. Select Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal. 5. Click the Remove button. 6. Click Close in the Modems Properties window. (Note) Unless the modem hardware (the Mini-PCI card) is removed, Windows will detect the modem during the next startup. Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Modems icon. 4. Select Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal. 5. Click the Remove button. 6. When you are asked if you want to remove the modem, click Yes. 7. Click the Close button in the Modems Properties window. 8. Double-click Devices icon in the Control Panel. 9. Select Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal Driver. 10. Click Startup button. 11. Select Disabled and click OK. 12. Click Close in the Devices window. 13. Restart the system. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- If there is an alphabet letter in the version number, check the date stamp of each file which version is installed. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT 2. Click Start, select Find, then click Files or Folders. 3.
