What This Packages Does ----------------------- This package provides the Modem driver for Windows 2000/XP users. The Modem driver enables or updates the modem function of "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem (MiniPCI Combo)" of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A20m, A20p (*1) - ThinkPad T20 (*1) - ThinkPad X20 (*1) - ThinkPad A21m, A21p, A21e (*1) - Thinkpad A22m, A22p, A22e (*1) - ThinkPad T21 (*1) - ThinkPad TransNote (*1) - ThinkPad i Series 1800 (*1) - ThinkPad i Series 1620 (*1) (Notes) *1: With "IBM 10/100 EtherJet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56K Modem" option. The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation purpose. To enable the Ethernet function of the MiniPCI Combo, an another package for Ethernet driver is also required. To determine if you should update the Modem driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Modem driver, refer to the "Installation Guide" section. Start Windows 2000 or XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W2KXP\MODEM\SETUP.EXE to install the modem driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. Uninstall 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal and click the Remove button. Determining which version is installed If there is an alphabet letters in the version number, please check the date stamp of each file which version is installed. Start Windows 2000 2. Click Start, select Find, then click Search. 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type the file name listed in the above table. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of each file. Windows XP To check the date/time of these files, 1. Start Windows XP 2. Click Start, then click Search. 3. Click All files and folders. 4. In the All or part of the file name: field, type each file name. 5. In the Look in: field, select C: drive. 6. Click More Advanced Options, then check Search subfolders. 7. Click the Search button. Windows will now search your hard disk drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Modem driver is not installed on your system. 8. In the Found part of the window, select the file name located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32. 9. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column to check the date/time of the each file. To check the driver version. 1. Start Windows 2000 or Windows XP 2. Click Start, for Windows 2000 only select Settings, then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon. 4. Click the Modems tab. 5. Select Xircom MPCI+Modem 56 WinGlobal then click the Properties button. 6. Select Diagnostics tab and click the Query Modem button. 7. Check the Command Response window to check the result of ATI3. The version of the driver installed is displayed.
