This driver will now automatically extract to your hard drive. It will only extract under Windows 95/98 and Windows NT. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system. What This Driver Package Does ------------------------------ This package provides the Ethernet driver and the diagnostic program of the following: 1. Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature ( P/N: 05K4872 ) which can be used with the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad i Series 1720, 1721 - ThinkPad 380Z - ThinkPad 390, 390E, 390X - ThinkPad 560Z - ThinkPad 570/E, i Series 1157*, (Requires IBM ThinkPad 570 UltraBase or IBM ThinkPad 570 Direct Dock Adapter) * Supports Windows 98 only. 2. PC Card Enabler with Advanced EtherJet Feature ( P/N: 05K4820 ) which can be used with the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad 600, 600E, 600X ( SelectaBase 600 is required. ) - ThinkPad 770, 770E, 770ED, 770X, 770Z ( SelectaBase 770 is required. ) To determine if you have to update the Ethernet driver or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Ethernet driver, please refer to the "Installation Guide" section. CAUTIONS -------- The driver name has been changed to "Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)" This driver package can not be contained within a Diskette. If you need to create a driver diskette, execute makems.bat (for Windows) or makenw.bat (for Netware) in the MAKEDISK subdirectory. (You can install the driver without making the diskette) Installation Guide ------------------ To determine if you have to update the Ethernet driver or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. Creating the Installation Diskette 1. Download the Package to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2. Extract the Package files into a temporary directory. Default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET. 3. Execute one of the following .BAT files to create an Installation diskette. MAKEMS.BAT -- Creates an adapter installation diskette for Microsoft Windows operating systems MAKENW.BAT -- Creates an adapter installation diskette for NetWare operating systems MAKEW98.BAT -- Creates an adapter installation diskette for the Windows 98 operating system using a digitally- signed set of driver files 4. Install/Update the Ethernet driver Note: You can skip step 3 and install/update the driver directly from the temporary directory. In this case, instead of specifying the A: drive for the location of driver file, type the directory (e.g. c:\drivers\win\ethernet) where the Package files are located. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type the each file name listed above table. 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click on the 'Find Now' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Ethernet driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the 'Found' part of the window, select the file name located in "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM". 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the 'Modified' column to check the date/time of the each file. Windows NT 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'Find' -> 'Files or Folders...'. 3. Click on the 'Name & Location' tab. 4. In the 'Named:' field, type the file name listed above table. 5. In the 'Look in:' field, specify "Local Hard drives (C:,D:)". 6. Click on the 'Find Now' button. Windows will now search your hard drive for the specified file. If the file is not found, then the Ethernet driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the 'Found' part of the window, select the file name located in "C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32". 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the 'Modified' column to check the date/time of the each file. Updating the driver for Windows 95 and Windows 98 ------------------------------------------------- 1. Click on Start, move the cursor to Setting, and click on Control Panel. 2. Double click on System. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Click on Network Adapters and double click on Intel EtherExpress PRO. 5. Click the Driver tab. 6. Click on Update Driver. 7. Follow the instructions of the Update Driver Wizard. Specify the location of the driver files, "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET". 8. Click on Finish. 9. Restart computer to make changes effective. Note: Some versions of Windows 95 do not have an Update Driver button. In this case, delete the Intel EtherExpress Pro and reinstall the driver. Updating the driver for Windows NT ---------------------------------- 1. Start Windows NT 4.0 and logon with administrative privilege. 2. Click on Start, move the cursor to Setting, and click on Control Panel. 3. Double click on Network. 4. Click on Adapters tab. 5. Select Intel EtherExpress PRO, and click Update. 6. Specify the location of the driver files, "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET". 7. Click Continue. 8. Restart computer to make changes effective. Installing the driver for Windows 98 ------------------------------------ The following installation procedure is changed from the User's Guide. When you dock your computer to the port replicator assembly for the first time and power on, the message "Add New Hardware Wizard" appears. To install the device driver for Windows 98, do the following: 1. If the "Add New Hardware Wizard" appears, go to the next step. If the "Add New Hardware Wizard" message does not appear, go to "Installing the Driver If the Message Does Not Appear" of User's Guide. 2. When the message "This wizard searches for new drivers for: Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100)" appears, click on Next. 3. Select 'Search for the best driver for your device' and press 'Next'. 4. Specify the location of the driver files, "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET". 5. Click on Next. 6. When Message "Windows driver file search for new device: Intel EtherExpress PRO PCI Adapter" appears, click on Next. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. When the computer prompts you to specify the driver that the adapter device driver is in, type the directory where the driver files are located, "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET", and click on OK. 9 Click on Finish. 10. Reboot your computer to make the changes effective. Note: The computer might recognize an 82557-based PCI Ethernet device driver. You need to install the device driver supplied on the Advanced EtherJet Feature Diskette.
