What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the audio driver for Windows 95/98 users. This package provides the audio driver for Windows NT users. The audio driver enables or updates the audio function of the following ThinkPad computer: - ThinkPad 240 To determine if you have to update the audio driver or not, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the audio driver, refer to the "Installation Guide" section. ======================================================================== ======================================================================== HOW TO INSTALL THE DRIVER: (Note) To determine if you have to update the audio driver or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. 1. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Extract this package to the hard disk. 3. Click on 'Start' -> 'Run...'. x. In the Run dialog window, type "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP" to install the audio driver. Click OK to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Click on the 'Next' button. 6. Select 'Upgrade Drivers'. 7. Click on the 'Next' button. 8. Select "Yes, I want to restart my computer now". 9. Click on the 'Finish' button. 10. The system will restart. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. 6. When Windows 98 detects "Unknown Device", select "Next" button. It will default to "Search for best driver for your device", press the "Next" button. This window should have search "Specify a location" checked. 7. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ Then click on the 'Next' button. The audio driver list appears. It will then identify the device as a "Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator" with the location of the driver set to "CWCAUDIO.INF", press the "Next" button. 8. When coping completes, press the 'Finish' button. 12. Windows 95 will now detect the PCI Multimedia Audio Device. 13. Click Next -> Other Location... Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ 14. Click OK, then click on Finish. 15. At the Insert Disk window, click OK. 16. In the "Copy files from:" box, specify the directory where the driver files are extracted and click on the 'OK' button. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ It will then identify the device as a "Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator". How to determine what version is installed ------------------------------------------ 1. Start Windows 95/98. 2. Click on 'Start' -> 'settings' -> 'Control Panel' 3. Open the 'System' Icon. 4. Click on the 'Device Manager' Tab. 5. Expand the 'Sound, video and game controller' section 6. Select "ESS SOLO-1 PCI AudioDrive" and click on 'Properties'. 7. Click on the 'Driver' Tab. 8. Click on the 'Driver File details' button. 9. Highlight the file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ESSOLO.VXD The file has the version number embedded. For example: The file version is displayed as 4.05..00.1113.
