Determine whether your machine is a 600 or 770/770ED which has an ACP modem. If not, this code is not appropriate for your machine. 2. If so, determine your current level of ACP modem code by running the ACP modem Quick Test utility which can be found by going to Windows START menu, PROGRAMS, THINKPAD MODEM, QUICKTEST. This will start the Quick Test application. In the upper right corner, you will see ThinkPad Modem x.xx (where x.xx is the release) and Build yy. These numbers will match one of the following: a. Release 2.33 Build 17 b. Release 2.35 Build 06 c. Release 2.35 Build 08 d. Release 2.35 Build 10 3. If you determine you have any of the above "a"-"c" level drivers, you must first update your machine to the latest level of ACP modem code. To do this, link to the ThinkPad website, find the ThinkPad driver matrix, and locate the ACP modem driver cell. From there, get the correct level according to your operating system and follow the instructions there for uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers. 4. If you've completed step 3, or you have level "d" driver, you are now ready to apply the V.90 upgrade code. 5. Download acpv90b.exe from Web site 6. Execute the acpv90b.exe from the hard drive and it will expand itself to a floppy diskette. 7. Execute the MODEM56K.exe from the floppy disk using your preference of the following CID commands: MODEM56K.EXE Asks user if they want to install upgrade. Asks user if they want to reboot at the end of the upgrade. MODEM56K.EXE cidautoexit Skips user prompt which asks user if they want to upgrade. Does not reboot, although a reboot will be required. This option allows a user to shutdown other apps, etc. MODEM56K.EXE cidautorestart Skips user prompt which asks user if they want to upgrade. Reboots machine when done. This option is fully automatic, but since the reboot is automatic, a user may lose data in other open applications.
