What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the Wireless LAN driver of IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card for Windows 95, Windows 98/98SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. This package enables or updates the IBM Wireless LAN function of the following ThinkPad computers: - ThinkPad A22m Vxx/Wxx To update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the Installation instructions section Released Versions ----------------- Version 6.42.1.204 Initial Release for ThinkPad A22m Summary of Changes ------------------ Where: Version n.n.nnn (New) New function or enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <6.42.1.204> - (New) Support for ThinkPad A22m Vxx/Wxx Installation instructions: -------------------------- Extracting the package in any supported operating system (OS). - Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANAGE. Three subdirectories should be displayed: DRIVERS, CL_MGR, and FIRMWARE. The DRIVERS directory also has subdirectories beneath it for each OS. Installing the LAN client manager in any supported OS 1. Click Start, then click Run. 2. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANAGE\CL_MGR\SETUP.EXE in the open dialog box and click OK to install the client manager. 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the client installation. Installing the firmware update in any supported OS 1. Click Start, then click Run. 2. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANAGE\FIRMWARE\WSU10616.EXE in the open dialog box and click OK to install the firmware update. 3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the firmware update. Installing Drivers for Windows 95 --------------------------------- Update installation: ("IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card" listed in Device Manager under Other devices or Network adapters) 1. Start Windows 95. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters or Other devices. 6. Click IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card to select it. 7. Click the Properties button. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click the Update Driver button. 10. Select Yes (Recommended) at the prompt, "Do you want Windows to search for the driver?". 11. Click the Next button. 12. Click the Other Locations button, and specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Location, then click OK. 13. Click the Finish button. 14. If it displays the Insert Disk dialog box, then click OK. 15. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Copy files from:, and Click OK. 16. Follow the instructions on screen. 17. Restart the computer. Clean installation: (Using the Update Device Driver Wizard) If this is the first boot of Windows 95, the card should be detected automatically. 1. Start Windows 95. The Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box is displayed. 2. Click the Next button. 3. Click the Other Locations button. 4. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Location, and click OK. 5. Click the Finish button. 6. Click OK to the Insert Disk dialog box. 7. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Copy files from:, and click OK. 8. Follow the instructions on screen to configure network settings. 9. Follow the prompts for any Windows 95 installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows 95 files. 10. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Installing Drivers for Windows 98/Me --------------------------------- Update installation: ("IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card" listed in Device Manager under Other devices or Network adapters) 1. Start Windows 98/Me. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters or Other devices. 6. Click IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card to select it. 7. Click the Properties button. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click the Update Driver button. 10. Windows Me only, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced). 11. Click the Next button in Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box. 12. Windows 98 only, select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now. (Recommended). 13. Windows 98 only, click the Next button. 14. Select Specify a location: only. 15. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Specify a location:. 16. Click the Next button. 17. Click the Next button. 18. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts. 19. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 20. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Clean install: (Using the Add New Hardware Wizard) If this is the first boot of Windows 98/Me, the card is detected automatically. 1. Start Windows 98/Me. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed. 2. Windows Me only, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced). 3. Windows 98 only, click the Next button. 4. Windows 98 only, select Search for the best driver for your device. (recommended). 5. Click the Next button. 6. Select Specify a location: only. 7. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Specify a location:. 8. Click the Next button. 9. Click the Next button. 10. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts. 11. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 12. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Installing Drivers for Windows NT4.0 ------------------------------------ Update installation: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Network icon. 4. Click the Adapters tab. 5. Select IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card. 6. Click the Update button. 7. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in the Insert Disk dialog box. 8. Click the Continue button. 9. Click the Close button. 10. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Clean installation: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the Network icon. The Network Configuration dialog box is displayed if this is the first time to configure the Network. If this is the case, then continue with step 4. If this is not the case, then go to step 17. (First Network Configuration) 4. Click Yes. 5. Select Wired to the network. 6. Click the Next button. 7. Click Select from list. 8. Click the Have Disk button. 9. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in the Insert Disk dialog box, and click OK. 10. Select IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card, and click OK. 11. Click the Next button. 12. Follow the instructions on screen. Follow the prompts for any Windows NT installation disks by typing the path to the directory that contains Windows NT files. (It is usually c:\i386 directory or Windows NT CD-ROM's x:\i386 directory.) 13. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 14. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. 15. Click the Adapters tab. 16. Click the Add button. 17. Click the Have Disk button. 18. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in the Insert Disk dialog box, and click OK. 19. Select IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card, and click OK. 20. Click the Close button. 21. Follow the instructions on screen. 22. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 3. Double-click the System icon. 4. Click the Hardware tab. 5. Click the Device Manager button. 6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters or Other devices. 7. Right-click IBM Internal High Rate Wireless LAN PC card or Network controller and click Properties. 8. Click the Driver tab. 9. Click the Update Driver button. 10. Click the Next button in the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box. 11. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended). 12. Click the Next button. 13. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:. 14. Click the Next button. 15. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Copy manufacturer's files from:, and click OK. 16. Click the Next button. (After this step, a Digital Signature not found message may appear. Simply answer Yes if this message appears). The driver installation starts. 17. Click the Finish button when the installation completes. 18. Restart the computer. Clean installation: (Using the Found New Hardware Wizard) If this is the first boot of Windows 2000, the card is detected automatically. 1. Start Windows 2000. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. 2. Click the Next button. 3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended). 4. Click the Next button. 5. Specify the directory name with the full path where you extracted the package in step 1 of Installation instructions in Copy manufacturer's files from:, and click OK. 8. Click the Next button.
