ThinkPad September 29, 2006 Intel(R) PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software (Ethernet Driver) for Windows 2000/XP Release (Build 124032) ====================================================================== Notice: ------- This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. What This Package Does ---------------------- This package provides the Ethernet driver for Windows 2000/XP. The Ethernet driver enables or updates the Ethernet function of the following adapters on the following ThinkPad computers. This release supports the following systems: - ThinkPad T60/T60p - ThinkPad X60s - ThinkPad X60 To determine if you should update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the Ethernet driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions" section. Released Versions ----------------- Release (Build 115370) Initial release for ThinkPad T60/T60p/X60s/X60 Release (Build 117283) Deep Smart Power Down support for ThinkPad T60/T60p Release (Build 121462) A power management bug fix Release (Build 124032) A fix to RIS installation issue in European languages Summary of Changes ------------------ Where: Build number (for example, 115370 means Build 115370) (New) New function or enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <115370> - (New) Initial release for ThinkPad T60/T60p/X60s/X60 <117283> - (New) Deep Smart Power Down support for ThinkPad T60/T60p Deep Smart Power Down (DSPD) ---------------------------- Deep Smart Power Down turns off the on-board Ethernet when link is down or the network cable is disconnected. After a timeout period, the Ethernet will power off. To the operating system, this appears as a "hot-unplugged" Ethernet. When the network cable is reconnected and link is restored, the Ethernet powers up and functionality is fully restored. This appears as a "hot-plugged" Ethernet. This function is available in Windows XP and functions when the system is battery mode. DSPD information: ----------------- To disable DSPD, ---------------- 1. Connect AC power to the system 2. Open Device Manager 3. Double-click Network adapters 4. Double-click Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection 5. Click Advanced tab, Select Deep Smart Power Down, and change the value to Disabled System does not wake up ----------------------- If your system has WoL enabled, DSPD enabled, and the on-board Ethernet has entered a DSPD state because the network cable was unplugged, and then your system enters standby or hibernate, your system will not wake up when a packet is sent to it. When the system is in an S3 or S4 state, the Ethernet can not come out of a DSPD state when the network cable is plugged in. To resolve this issue either do not unplug the network cable before entering an S3 or S4 state or disable DSPD. "Error ID: 12 PlugPlayManager" in Event Log ------------------------------------------- If you have DSPD enabled and you unplug the network cable, an "Error ID: 12 PlugPlayManager. The device 'Intel...' disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal." message will be written to the event log. This error only occurs on the first DSPD event after a reboot. This error has no affect on the NIC or software functionality. Driver Update in DSPD --------------------- You cannot update the device driver when the Ethernet is in DSPD mode. When you need to update the device driver, do one of the following: 1. Plug AC power 2. Establish link by connecting Ethernet cable 3. Disable DSPD in Device Manager Back-To-Back communication in DSPD ---------------------------------- When one ThinkPad T60/T60p in DSPD mode is connected to another ThinkPad T60/T60p in DSPD mode via Ethernet Cable directly, they can't establish Ethernet Link. This can be avoided with one of the following ways: 1. Plug AC power to one of ThinkPad T60/T60p 2. Perform an operation of Standby/Resume on one of ThinkPad T60/T60p 3. Disable DSPD in Device Manager on one of ThinkPad T60/T60p <121462> - (Fix) A power management issue that happens after entering DSPD mode is fixed. Notice: In order to use DSPD, the following version of BIOS and Embedded Controller Program (ECP) are required in addition to this device driver.
