*** Installation of Enhanced Video and MPEG for OS/2 Warp on Thinkpad 760CD *** Revised 09/25/96 by Jim Wilkerson This procedure is for installing the Enhanced Video features for OS/2 Warp on the IBM Thinkpad 760CD machines only. It will work for OS/2 Warp for Windows (red label), OS/2 Warp with WINOS2 (blue label), and OS/2 Warp Connect (both versions). The files listed in this procedure are available from the IBM PC Company BBS at phone: (919) 517-0001, anonymous ftp: ftp.pcco.ibm.com, and World Wide Web site: http://www.pcco.ibm.com. *** NOTE *** The actual file descriptions listed here may vary from the descriptions a posted on the BBS, the ftp site, and the WEB. The file name, size, and d should be exact. *** Preliminary Setup *** The Thinkpad should be placed on AC power prior to beginning the installation. Failure to do so can cause various inconsistencies in the installation which will prevent the system from functioning normally. The Thinkpad must be removed from any dock stations for installation. The Thinkpad must have functional OS/2 Multimedia, Mwave, and Trident video support installed prior to installing the Enhanced Video support. Obtain the following files from IBM, run each from a temporary directory, and follow the instructions for creating the respective disks as shown. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- File Name File SizeFile Date Description ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- VETPFOS2.EXE 221419 08/28/96 Enhanced Video for OS/2 Warp - TP 760CD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- MPTPFOS2.EXE 1422912 07/22/96 MPEG Video Disk for OS/2 Warp - TP 760CD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** Installation *** Using the Multimedia Application Install object from the Multimedia folder, insert the Enhanced Video for OS/2 diskette and select 'Thinkpad 760CD Overlay Video Acceleration' (this is the only choice). Click OK and proceed with the installation. After the installation completes, shutdown and re-boot the system. Verify that the following lines were installed in CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\VIDVAS.SYS DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\V73APM2.SYS where x is the drive in which OS/2 Warp is installed. Using the Multimedia Application Install object from the Multimedia folder, insert the MPEG Update for OS/2 Warp diskette and select both 'OS/2 MPEG Subsystem Fixes' and 'Thinkpad 760CD MPEG Device Driver'. Click OK and proceed with the installation. After the installation completes, shutdown and re-boot the system. Verify that the following lines were installed in CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\IBMMPEG.SYS DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\VCSHDD.SYS where x is the drive in which OS/2 Warp is installed. The order of these two lines may be reversed, this is okay. Verify that the following objects were added to the Multimedia folder: AVI File Utility Digital Video 2 Digital Video 3 Video CDI Player Video IN Recorder *** Post Installation Considerations *** Installation of the Enhanced Video features for the Thinkpad 760CD leaves only 1 interrupt available to the system, INT 11. Because of this: 1. Only 1 PCMCIA device can be used in the Thinkpad itself (no dock). 2. If using a dock station, only the SCSI controller OR the PCMCIA controller can be used. 3. Network connectivity can not be used with the dock station. These limitations can be circumvented somewhat by various hardware configurations (Mwave device, COM ports, etc.), but some funtionality will have to be sacrificed in order to achieve specific configurations.
