INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE IN INTERACTIVE MODE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Use this program to detect and configure the INTEL chipset after installing the base operating system and supplement files. DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED: 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 3. Click the + sign in front of the System Devices category. 4. Double-click the Intel Chipset. 5. Click the Driver tab, and the driver version will be displayed. Install: 1. Close any running applications. 2. Run the InstallShield installation program in INTELINF folder. Windows XP:setup.exe 3. You will be prompted to agree to the license agreement. If you do not agree, the Installer will exit before extracting any files. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions and use the default settings to complete the setup, once the operating system has rebooted. 5. INSTALLING THE INF FILES PRIOR TO OS INSTALLATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to extract Windows INF files prior to OS installation: 1. Click Start and then click Run. 2. In the Open field, type setup.exe -a -a -p C:\INTEL. 3. Click OK and the Setup Screen for the INTEL Chipset Software Installation Utility appears. NOTE: This stage just runs the installShield program and does not extract the INF and CAT files. 4. Click Next at the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard section 5. Click Yes to Accept License Agreement. 6. Click Next at ReadMe Information screen. The progress bar shows the extract status. After reaching 100%, the INF and CAT files have been extracted in C:\INTEL folder. 7. Check C:\INTEL folder. The "ICH7" folder and others should be in C:\INTEL directory. 8. The INF and CAT files can be used from the XP folders for installation. 9. The subdirectory is C:\INTEL\ICH7\. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4A. Copy the Windows INF files and the catalog files (.CAT) from the folder listed in step 2 to the directory created in Step 3 above. 5. Either modify the default Windows installation answer file, UNATTEND.TXT, located in WINDOWS Setup Directory, or create a customized answer file. The answer file must include the following information: [Unattended] OemPreinstall = Yes OemPnPDriversPath="drivers\IntelINF" 6. Run WINNT.EXE /u:answer file name /s:WINDOWS Setup Directory" to install Windows.
