Please get the additional package, BIOS Version 1.13 (or higher), and update the BIOS in the system with it if necessary. - BIOS Version 1.42 or higher is required for Intel Pentium M Processor 738 models. - BIOS Version 1.55 or higher is required for Intel Pentium M Processor 758/733 models. - BIOS Version 2.02 or higher is required for Intel Pentium M Processor 778 models. - Embedded Controller Program Version 1.32 or higher is required for Intel Pentium M Processor 738/758/778/733 models. - If you should update the BIOS as well as the Embedded Controller Program, update BIOS first. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette updates the Embedded Controller Program (H8 controller firmware) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. (Some keys seem to keystrokes, because the shift cases are not defined) - Multiple selection with cursor keys - Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys Updating Embedded Controller Program ------------------------------------ Notes: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the Embedded Controller Program in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the Embedded Controller Program. - Make sure the Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette is write-protected. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the write protected Embedded Controller Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select Update Embedded Controller Program and follow the instruction on the screen. Note: If you are updating the Embedded Controller Program through the USB external diskette drive, it will take quite a long time to complete reading the Embedded Controller Program file, but it is normal. Continue the update. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Do the following to make sure the Embedded Controller Program is updated correctly. 7. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn on the computer. 8. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the Access IBM button. 9. Double-click Start setup utility. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enters the password. 10. Verify the Embedded Controller Version. 11. Turn off the computer.
