(Note) To utilize CCX and WPA wireless connections, wireless adapter software for your wireless adapter and Access Connections should be updated as follows. - IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter Software ver 2.4.1.7 or later - IBM Access Connections ver 2.70 or later With this configuration, CCX and WPA wireless connections can be enabled on the following wireless LAN cards. - IBM Dual-Band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini-PCI Adapter - IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter (Note) -If you currently use IEEE 802.1x authentication on Windows XP Service Pack 1 and do not use WPA encryption, IBM recommend to uninstall Q826942 (WPA Supplicant update rollup package in Windows XP) and Q815485 (WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP). To check if the Q826942 or Q815485 is installed and to uninstall it: 1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel" 3. Click "Add or Remove Programs" 4. Click "Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q826942" or "Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q815485" if it is listed under "Currently installed programs" 5. Click "Remove" and follow the instructions on the screen. Note: The above action will remove all the fixes within the update rollup package, Q826942. You may need to re-install the other specific hotfixes you expect for this rollup package. -If you use Windows 2000, please stop the Microsoft Wireless Configuration service if already installed. To check if the service is installed and to stop it: 1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel" 3. Double-click "Administrative Tools" then "Services" 4. Double-click "Wireless Configuration" if it is listed. 5. Change "Startup type" to "Disabled" if it is not. 6. Click "OK" You may need to re-enter security information after updating the Wireless LAN driver. To determine if you should update the Wireless LAN driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. Windows 98 SE 1. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is prerequisite. If your computer does not have WMI installed, go to Microsoft's web site and down load the latest WMI and install it first. 2. Start Windows 98SE. 3. Extract this package to the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start, then click Run. 5. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLLANPHL\SETUP.EXE and click OK to install the Wireless LAN software. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen. Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click "Start", click "Settings" and click "Control Panel". 3. Double-click "Network" icon. 4. If this is the first time to configure the Network, it will display "Network Configuration" dialog box, then proceed to the next step. If not, go to step 14. 5. Click "Yes" button. 6. Windows NT 4.0 Unattended Installation ------------------------------------- To install the IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter Driver without any interruption, please following these steps. This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows NT 4.0, logon with administrative privileges. 2. Copy the I386 Folder from the Windows NT 4.0 CD-ROM to the hard drive. 3.
