Client Service Pack 3.0 _______________________ * Important installation notes * What's new in SP 3.0 * Verifying if your new system is up-to-date * Installing the client update on your update server * How to customize the installsp30.xml * Updating your N2200w Important installation notes *When updating an OS image or downloading a configuration, the update file type you use is dependent on your version of the NetVista thin client. · For WBT SP 1.1 or earlier, use .XML files. · For WBT SP 2.0 or later use .BUD files. *If you are upgrading to Service Pack 3 from Service Pack 1.1 or earlier, you will need to use the .XML files at the initial upgrade. After the initial upgrade use .BUD files. *Use http or ftp as the transport protocol. If using FTP, the server MUST support the PASV flag (passive FTP). Microsoft Internet Information Server is known to support this flag. *If your update server is using http as the transport protocol, ensure that the http server directory permissions for the update directory (e.g. sp30) DO NOT have execute turned on. --------------------- What's new in SP 3.0 *What follows is an overview of what is new in Service Pack 3.0. Press key to activate the Terminal Properties dialog box 4. Click on the "System" tab and check the "Build Version Information" 5. If the Build Number is 1087_1, your software is already up-to-date and you can skip software update steps and start configuring and using your system. If the Build Number is at 0302, you need to update your system software by using .BUD files. * If your Build Version is previous to 0302(SP2), you must use .XML to update to the new level of code. ------------------------- *Instructions on how to update WBT from SP2 to SP3 using .BUD files are described in the N2200W Reference Information at the following URL: http://www.ibm.com/nc/pubs If you are updating from a pre SP2 service pack, you need to install the update using the following XML instructions: Installing the Client Code on your server using XML: To update your client software you must first setup an update server: 1. Make sure you have a HTTP server or a FTP server, with anonymous login support, as your update server. 2. Install the software update package from the CD into the appropriate folder on the update server. The SP3.0 is packaged in the client directory on the CD. You must first copy the contents into a subdirectory accessible by update protocol on your update server. For example, if you are using Microsoft IIS with its default HTTP root directory, you can create a folder sp30 as follows: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\sp30 You then copy all the files in the client subdirectory into this folder. With this example, the Update URL you specify on your client systems is: http://update_server/sp30/installsp30.xml Where update_server should be substituted with the actual host name or the IP address of the update server. 3. Edit the XML (installsp30.xml) file to reflect your server environment. You need to modify the update XML files with the address of the update server. ------------------------- How to customize the installsp30.xml You need to customize the installsp30.xml file based on: The transport protocol you choose to use (http or ftp) The server host name/IP address of your update server The directory path used to access the files installsp30.xml file: Copy getconfig.exe http://update_server/sp30/getconfig.exe getconfig.exe Save Current Configuration getconfig.exe Download Software Update for SP3.0 http://update_server/sp30/nk_1087.bin \Program Files\nk.bin Yes Updating your N2200w 1.
