Instructions for upgrading a IBM PCMCIA 28.8 International Modem to 33.6 on Windows95 or Windows NT 4.0 operating system. o NOTE: When upgraded to 33.6 firmware the International modem MUST be used with the 33.6 country selector software. o Expand ( unzip) file INTW95UG.EXE o Upgrading is a three step operation: - Upgrading your modem with the 33.6Kbps firmware - removing the IBM PCMCIA 28.8 International Modem country selector from your system. - Installing the 33.6 INF file and country selector on your system. Note: Windows NT 4.0 is different than Windows95. ______________________________________________________ 1) Upgrading your modem to 33.6 Kbps o Insert modem in PCMCIA socket o In control panel select "modems", select "PCMCIA 28.8 INT'L modem" select "properties" and record what port the modem is using. o Go to DOS, change to the directory where you downloaded the upgrade. o Execute "firmware" program, (type firmware and press enter). o Follow instructions on screen. when requested, type in the port number you recorded. o Modem will be upgraded to 33.6Kbps and set to U.S.A. country. o Later you can use the 33.6 country selector to set the modem to your country of choice. o You can verify the upgrade by using a terminal program by typing ati3 enter the modem will return 7852-P01 V4.0 _____________________________________________________ 2) Removing the IBM 28.8 modem country selector from your system o Open control panel, open "Add/Remove programs". o Select "IBM PCMCIA International Modem Utilities". o Click on "Add/Remove" Note: Sometimes items may not be uninstalled. This will not affect the 33.6 modem or country selector operation. o Close "Add/Remove screen". o In control panel, open "modems" folder. o If "PCMCIA 28.8 Int'l modem" is listed, select it and click on "remove". o Close folders. ________________________________________________________ 3) Installing the 33.6 country selector for Windows95 o Remove and Insert modem in PCMCIA socket o New hardware found will appear on your screen. Select "Driver from disk provide by hardware manufacturer". Click on OK. o On "Install From Disk" screen in copy manufacturer's files from: type the location of the directory you expanded "intugw95" into. Click OK, INF file will be loaded. example: c:\download Note: Some Windows95 systems may have "Update Device Drive Wizard" screen instead of above. Select next, then select other locations. For location, type where the INF is located. Wizard should find IBM PCMCIA 33.6 Int'l Modem Click on "finish" o Select "Run" in start menu o Type location of the upgraded country selector program. example: c:\download\setup o Follow instructions on screen to install the country selector for Windows95 / Windows NT 4.0 3 b) Installing the 33.6 country selector for Windows NT 4.0 o In control panel open "modems" Install new modem screen will appear. Click on "next". o When Windows NT find your modem, click on "change" o On Models screen, select "have disk" o On Install From Disk screen, type the location you have the down load, example: c:\download o Click on OK, then select IBM PCMCIA 33.6 Int'l Modem click on OK. o Follow instructions on screen to complete installation of modem INF file. o Select "Run" in start menu o Type location of the upgraded country selector program. example: c:\download\setup o Follow instructions on screen to install the country selector for Windows95 / Windows NT 4.0 Windows95 and Windows NT are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
