README.1ST Installation Notes for the IBM IDE CD-ROM Drive (for OS/2 Only) This README file contains information about installing the necessary device drivers to support an IBM IDE CD-ROM drive in an IBM PC 300 or PC 700 running an OS/2 environment. It contains the following topics: Bus-Master DMA IDE Device Drivers Installation Procedures The CIDCD.EXE Program Installing CD-ROM Support in Windows 3.1 Trademarks and Notices Bus-Master DMA IDE Device Drivers ================================= You must not have more than one hard disk device driver or more than one CD-ROM device driver loaded. To avoid this problem, use one of the installation procedures described later in this README to install the necessary device drivers. You can view and edit the CONFIG.SYS file to ensure that the correct device drivers are being activated. The standard IDE hard disk device driver is IBM1S506.ADD; the bus-master DMA IDE hard disk device driver is PIIXIDE.ADD. The following command in CONFIG.SYS activates the hard disk device driver: BASEDEV=drivername.ADD The standard IDE CD-ROM device driver is IBMIDECD.FLT; the bus-master DMA IDE CD-ROM device driver is PIIXIDE.FLT. The following command in CONFIG.SYS activates the CD-ROM device driver: BASEDEV=drivername.FLT Note: "REM" appearing in front of a line in CONFIG.SYS causes the operating system to ignore that line. Make sure that no more than one hard disk device driver and no more than one CD-ROM device driver are activated by CONFIG.SYS. Also make sure that you are using both of the standard device drivers or both of the bus-master DMA device drivers. Do not attempt to use one standard device driver and one bus-master DMA device driver. Installation Procedures ======================= Procedure 1: If bus-master DMA device drivers are already installed in your computer (or if you do not know whether they are installed), use the configuration, installation, and distribution (CID) installation method only. This method automatically installs the necessary device drivers, avoiding duplication of device drivers, and it installs the necessary CD-ROM support in OS/2. Procedure 2: If bus-master DMA device drivers are not already installed in your computer you can install them through the OS/2 Selective Install. However, you must install the necessary CD-ROM support (using Selective Install or the CID installation method) before you install the bus-master DMA device drivers. The CIDCD.EXE Program ===================== The installation program, CIDCD.EXE, can be used to install the bus-master DMA device drivers through a CID installation or through a stand-alone installation. See the README.CID file for an explanation of the CID installation method. If your computer is not connected to a network, run CIDCD.EXE, and the program will prompt you for the required input. Installing CD-ROM Support in Windows 3.1 ======================================== To install CD-ROM support in a DOS with Windows environment, run the UINSTALL.EXE program and follow the prompts for the required input.
